It seems a shame that all the little things are conspiring against CMF and Woden - turn order for declaring, invisible units that are actually visible, CMF going off grid and not getting to play the turns he's been planning for the last month.

Still if Woden can take out Genova then this could be close...

Note to self: invisibile units aren't actually invisible

EDIT - and what a horrible way to implement this Firaxis. Make it so you show the unit can go everywhere, but when it tries to go to that tile you uncover the unit. They give no thought to MP whatsoever here.

I mean, I think barring something terribly unforseen, Sullla and Singaboy come out on top here. The real question is if they'll be able to resist the subsequent attack from Archduke. Jury is out on that one. 

This all does depress me though. To be clear, I have nothing against Sullla as a player, my rooting for CMF/Woden aside, I think Sullla/Singaboy have played legitimately very solid games here. That being said, it feels like the net effect of all these little things breaking their way is making their win a foregone conclusion when I would really like to see them have to work for it a little harder. At the end of the day, it's been a cakewalk of a game for them. Eternally peaced out neighbor on one side, newer player on the other side, strong Civ picks, it cheapens the victory somewhat and shortchanges Sullla and the community of the well-deserved and hard fought win his play and reporting deserves.

It all hinges on this war and the subsequent attack from TheArchduke.

CMF/Woden had to 'whip' their civs to the ground in order to be competitive in this war, while Sullla/Singaboy have the infrastructure that they can come back from a stalemate no problem. They just tech ahead and kill everyone with the next level of units. The other teams have to make Sullla/Singaboy loose and quickly.

Regarding the naval battle. One thing that will become tricky is the actual upgrading of units, that Sullla wants to do. He can only move to Parma, Pisa and newly capture Nan Mado to upgrade his Frigates. Those cities have only 4 to 5 water tiles between them and his current positioning is putting him quite far away from those cities.

Man, am I looking forward to the next few turns, too bad CMF will miss it.

With the English movement advantage, would it not have been better for CMF to try and completely avoid Sullla's first strike? He could have massed his ships in a big block just northeast of Sullla, then on the turn before DoF expires CMF runs everything the 5 (of the 7 possible) moves away from Sullla where there's no possible way for him to get everything into the combat. Sulla with his 5 move ships would only be able to get a single line of units to attack, but doing so would put him within range for devastating counter attack. If Sulla keeps everything in place on T1 of the war then CMF with his 7 moves has enough to cover the space retreated over, plus attack for the first strike. If Sullla retreats on T1, then CMF first sacrifices a ship to scout out the location, and then moves his ships forward until they are within 5 tiles. Sullla might retreat for a couple turns, but eventually will get pinned against the coast. A few ships could escape down the canal city, but the rest I think could be caught within 3-4 turns of slow advancing.

Sullla would have the opportunity then to upgrade to Battleships, but the turn of upgrade allows CMF the chance to first strike, and after Sullla retreats out of Nan Madol water on T1 of the war he's only got a few water tiles in his culture where he could do the upgrades.
