Planetfall PBEM?

Inspired by haphazard's Alpha Centauri thread, I recently decided to reinstall the Planetfall mod.

For those who are unfamiliar, Planetfall attempts to roughly recreate SMAC using the Civ IV engine. I'm not certain how authentic the experience is, having never actually played the original, but it's an enjoyable enough game on its own.

RB briefly flirted with Planetfall back in 2012, running an SG and a couple PBEMs (one of which was played to completion). Eventually interest waned, likely due to the SG turning into a slog and the mod's well-meaning but neurotic developer obsessively arguing with players and adjusting the game based on whatever seemed to be most effective at any given moment in one of the PBEMs. I figure more than enough time has passed for Planetfall to be a fresh experience.

Looking for 4-5 players. Be forewarned that the mod falls somewhere between vanilla FFH and base BTS in terms of balance, which is to say that you can expect a reasonably competitive game, but one where luck will be a significant factor.

Open to a variety of settings; the only ones I'll insist on are banning Yang, who gets insane bonuses to unit production, and disallowing players from using pods (goody huts) to rush wonder completion (if not disabling pods altogether).

I'd be interested, flirted with the mod a few times but never got the hang of it.

Interestingly, I recently played around with it a little bit too but got quickly annoyed while playing with bots. Would be up for PBEM. I was playing with some fixes applied to economic civics as in Planetfall they are quite idiotic both from immersion and balance perspective (Planned is the only civic which makes sense to run, unless you are in a protracted war, in which case you may profit from switching to free market for free happiness).
I got rid of idiotic mechanics with +happiness for running energy slider and instead gave free market +10% flat commerce, a penalty to planet attitude in all bases and some happiness penalties. I kept +1 trade route. I scrapped stupid autarky and replaced it with regulated economy (+10% food everywhere, +3 happy in 5 largest cities, +3 health everywhere, +100% to distance maintenance). Planned now has -2 health everywhere, +10% hammers everywhere, +50% hammers, +35% food in the capital.
I think those changes make the game much better and would prefer to use them. I have made several more adjustments to civics, may post a full changelog if anyone is interested. But other changes are mostly cosmetic.
Two questions about settings:
1) What do we do with the fact that we are supposed to have seven factions? Leave them blank or may be allow AIs into the game? In my ideal world Yang would be fittingly replaced with AI as AI tends to roleplay him nicely, while we find human players for all others.
2) Expansion factions just off, I presume?

Actually, thinking about it, I'd really like a talkative ded-lurker if I take on this game. I'd prefer to have somebody beside me with a good knowledge of the mechanics helping me before taking on a PBEM.

@ Gavagai:

#1- I would prefer to leave them blank, as the AI isn't particularly strong and would mostly be a supply of free cities and Formers to whoever started closest to them

#2- Yeah; they aren't very well balanced and even just the standard factions sans Yang should provide enough variety to accommodate most strategies.
