LK tries SMAC again

LK plays SMAC again

What is sad is I get more one more turn urge from this ancient game, then I do from Civ6.  I never dig figure out Civ6.  Some time I will also have to do LK plays Civ6 a few turns at a time.

I start with a beeline as much as possible to industrial automation.  Centurai Ecology for formers is the only other critical early tech.

This is my start after a few turns.

I quickly capture some mind worms.  This is the beauty of playing Gaia.  I find one of my favorite early landmarks.  Having that many 2-2-2 tiles without needing any work is great early in the game.
I quickly made contract with the Spartans and Hive in the area.

The world's luckiest alien artifact marched 20+ tiles and managed to help to complete the weather paradigm.

The hive attacked in 2165.  Just a little bit after that I made the revolt to police state.  That war probably won't have started.

I nailed a hive colony pod just after the war started.

I completed the human genome project.

I take the hive city right next to the landmark.  The captured mind worms march up to the next city.  I can't believe how fast they gave up.

I completed the empath guild.  I barely get elected governor.

I had to figure out why Miriam is so screwed. It also explains why Zakrarov is such a monster.

Sparta really got screwed with a small land mass to start.

This is an overview of my empire.  With police state up and running I can now afford to greatly increase my supply of formers.
You can see my wind worms wondering around the fungus hoping to find more mind worms for either capture or more money.

I still keep learning subtle lessons. If you send a transport out to explore other islands, carry a max load. I put one rover on, and it fell through a dimensional gate. The transport is coming back home to pick up more troops. I may lose out on some pods.

The Ruins are a very nice find near the start. The heavy fungus can be a pain early on, but the mulitiple high value tiles without needing former turns are really helpful.

When you capture worms, are they support free? Or do they get assigned to one of your bases for support?

Wurms and units you get via pods are assigned to the nearest city unless you're too far away; in that case they become independent and don't cost support.

An amazing thing the Gaians can do is go send a wurm as far off into the wilderness as possible and just run around. You either get cash or build up a huge force of support-free wurms. Good to keep your military moving around as the Gaians if there is still unsettled land.

Several of them are independent. Found them far enough away. smile

I believe you need a specific tech before you can build a road on a fungus-infested tile. So you might have tried to do so early in a game and not been allowed because you did not yet have the tech?

I don't recall which tech it was, but I remember reading it in one of the tech descriptions.

Yeah, I think you're right.

There are multiple techs that improve what you can do in fungus.
