[TECH] Some Manner of New Game

My best time will be 0200-0600 (CST+5).

I'm okay with any of the map types, game varients, and pick types as I'm reasonably sure that I'm gonna be in over my head on this one.  crazyeye

But I'm looking forward to the challenge.

I like the idea of 'only razing city states'. I agree free barb cities are boring but interacting with city states sounds fun, and is something I'm looking forward to exploring since there's no equivalent in civ4.

My recollection from single player games was that religion didn't feel very useful so I'm hesitant to ban stuff from it. That was some time ago though.

Banning Sumeria sounds good to me.

'Only razing city states' sounds good with me, that acutally sounds better than banning city states!

Religion didn't matter in SP due weak AI, actutally no stratergy did matter, just grow bigger than Ai and you basically already won SP game, that is how weak AI are in civ 6!
That is one of big reasons why there is little interest in SP games of civ 6.
In MP religion can be major factor contributing growth of civ and winning game. If majority wants DotF and Crusader stay, that is fine too but be prepared for dealing someone with permanent 10+ strength bonus over you.

Random roll map type?

Also none of players aside me had played civilization 6 PBEM (except Grotsnot who did replace Chevalier several days when latter was on holiday), for civ 6 PBEM we uses PYDT client to pass around saves.
https://www.playyourdamnturn.com/ (it also supports Mac OS X and Linux aside Windows)
You need log in with your steam account. Downloading client is recommend otherwise you need to download and upload save manually from PYDT website every turn.
The client notify when it is your turn and handles upload and downloading saves very easily. Sometimes there is little problem and it is then recommend to upload manually through website.
One of common reason why PYDT don't seem upload your save properly: you didn't move all your units (or used up its movement points or put it in defense stance) and PYDT notices it and keep telling that you should download save instead uploading new save. To solve it just click start game in civ 6 again (this isn't reload or restart) and you are only able to move units that still need moving.
Yeah, it is sometimes annoying, especially in future eras when map is flooded by units.

I did put a test game for you all, to get some feel how to handle PYDT. Also check whether nothing goes wrong whether passing around saves. I put a password to prevent random players joining it.

Don't matter which civ and in which order you join. We can just play one turn, maybe one more. Just get feeling how PYDT works.

In real game however we need to join in order according our determined order based upon our timeslots, also pick chosen civ there. Who start first, he shall set up civ 6 and PYDT for PBEM 13.

Thank you Alhambram! @TheBlackSword - I'm fine with no expansion, there are always future pbems. For settings, I'm thinking of a Pangaea/Inland Sea map (the latter has more land) and bans on Scythia, Sumeria and Macedon if we're including that DLC. All three bans are because they're too good at war: Scythia has double horse, heal on kill and +5 against wounded units, which is too much. Sumeria has the OP warcart, and Macedon has the unique barracks, hetairoi and no war weariness bonuses.

I'll move to the American east coast in early September. When I get there, my timeslot will be 20:30 - 22:00 GMT (or 4:30-6pm in eastern time)

I'm just dedlurking, but to my knowledge no one has yet overcome Defender of the Faith. Usually, the player who gets it is the last to have to concede, if he doesn't win outright. It's probably not a big deal in a game with 6 players, but I would echo Alhambram's desire to ban that belief until the RB mod patches it down to +5 instead of +10. Effectively making one player immune to conquest until the endgame is not a fun way to play, I think, although it does create neat religious races.

Yeah I'm on board for banning unmodded DotF. Crusader seems excessive since it's so much harder to use - IIRC it only works if someone is damn fool enough to let Crusader missionaries in.

One more to join test game.

Meanwhile nobody seemingly has preference for map type, we can leave that choice to mapmaker? So we shall be suprised? (or if mapmaker decided to tell us which sort map?).
Anybody who is willing to create/roll map for us?

However mapmaker need civ choices from us to create properly map, so what are we going do? Let lurker give us 3 civs to choose (banning Scythia and Sumeria) or we make a preference list and send it to lurker?

My vote is for an Inland Sea or a Pangaea map, and for the lurker to give us a randomized 3 civ choice.

I'm for a lurker giving us choices...not sure I could stand the pressure of picking from the "full stack".

No preference for map choice.
