My trader met Archduke so I have the complete set of the still living civs:
Lets see what Archduke has:




He is the Rome of the second continent and he has now  an Alliance with the real Rome  

The standings show that the 2nd continent is the powerhouse:




If Rome doesn't increase his science soon he won't stand a chance in the endgame especially not if Russia manages to use his Cossacks to get the very well developed cities of Brazil.




Finally since it is 1 AD the world as far as Sparta knows:

Turn 120:

Rho has upgraded his Units to Muskets and Knights so I expect this was the last turn in peace.

Last thing to do is to make some weird decision regarding districts and harvest the one or other useful resource to make him conquering me not too useful for him.

Managed to kill a roman knight. Used the last money to upgrade a War-chariot to a Knight. Asked archduke twice for a gift of 100 gold but he prefers to be stingy and sits on his 1200 gold (and growing) stash. I don't now why but obviously he thinks Rome conquering me faster is a good thing for him.

From last turn after killing his Knight:




Of course my Knight won't survive but one has to take any victory one can here.. trying to kill a Musket is futile anyway.

I wonder what Russia is saving up for.

He will massupgrade and try to take on Brazil once his DoF runs out. I have 6 mediocre cities 3 of them are quite new and won't help Rome much. Brazil has 7 well developed cities which make a lot of and and 2-3 rather new one. So if Archduke manages to get Brazil he will be in a far better position than Rome after swallowing Sparta. Still IMO Archdulke could have parted from 100 or 200 gold to support my defense. The longer Rome needs the better for him.

Rome declared war on Brazil at the same turn he declared on me but I don't think he has sent much troops over.

Against the Muskets having the Tortoise-promotion the numbers are even worse.


On an international note: The DoF between Brazil and Russia has run out so lets see if the other continent provides some fireworks too.

Brazil declared war on Hattusa. But I have the feeling he has another war on his doorstep soon.

Archduke declared war on Brazil (and conquered 1 city already). He gave me a big gift in way of luxuries and Iron but I still asked him for money (45 gold for an upgrade) after he used his big pile of cash.

The 2 Barbs are dead now.

Rome took the western city. Signed an Alliance with Brazil . I wondered how Artchduke could takecities from Brazil when both have similar Mil.PPower. Now I know all Brazils power is a fleet . He has more than 10 Frigates and some caravels. Since Brazil has some colonies off their shared continent I gues the Duke won't get much out of his Conquest. That is as long as Brazil is smart enough to stay at war.
