This change is truly worthy of its own entire section in the patch notes. I am so glad Firaxis developer time has been spent on such a sorely needed improvement.
And it's totally unbalanced. Three cats against one dog. :P

I was going to buy the expansion at launch but not sure anymore. Maybe wait for a sale. My biggest issue of that it just takes too long to build anything in the lategame doesnt really seem have to have resolved. In SP games, hitting end turn ad nauseum in the late game without any real decisions presented while you just wait for builds to finish really turned me off.

1 UPT really broke 5 & 6 for me. I still haven't gotten around to learning 6.
I still enjoy Civ 3 / 4 more. SoD were so much fun.
I still want to finish some more Civ4 Epics.

Nope! I didn't expect it to be that much.

Meh, they probably had some modellers with nothing else to do, and got a funny patch note out of it. It's not like they could retrain them to AI developers or whatever in a week. It's probably funnier if you have a more positive attitude towards the game -- not that I blame you.
As I worried, there's nothing to compensate for the unmodified overflow. Also, how many patches did this so-called exploit survive? I think at this point, it qualifies as a rule change.

The pricepoint puts me off big time too, I could buy entire games at that price. I'd maybe consider it if the new mechanics were actual additions and not just "spend more turns doing the same thing you were already bored with in Vanilla" . I'm not hyped at all for the expansion, Rise and Fall actively making the game worse certainly doesn't make me confident enough to spend 30 euros.

I agree with you, Japper. R&F doesn't add anything to the gameplay that makes it more enjoyable. I adds more unnecessary MM exploits.
I will wait and see and buy it from a bin for $5, if at all. I sincerely hope they will review their 1upt concept, as it takes away so much from the game. Civ5/6 are so much worse than Cv3/4 mainly thanks to that.

I do not think the issue is really 1UPT, I get what they are trying to do there. The Stacks running around in CIV IV were a MM hell especially in MP.
I think that CIV VI are better geared to MP thanks to 1UPT, sadly the developers are focused on flashy SP with "culture" victory which is just useless for MP and conveniently forget that the AI needs to play the game.

I'd reckon about 3-4 days of developer time split between at least a modeller, an animator and a UI coder. But yeah, it's entirely possible those specific disciplines had a little slack time. Even if not, I suspect that from a business perspective it was worth it for 2K. I still get to snark at the patch note though.

I honestly wasn't expecting anything. It always seemed that the developers wanted things to take ages and that abusing chop overflow was an exploit. So this is probably roughly how the developers wanted people to play the game all along. To be fair, it probably makes the game much more balanced. It's just also much more annoying.

I think the real problem is Civ5 being left unfinished by Trip. We would lower our standards if this was the first 1upt game not the second.
