On to the snake pick.

I could be wrong but I think this is the first time we used points in a PB game? On to the drafting strategy.

If you're in the top 4, I think you should try to get one of the top leaders first. The reasoning is that if you take a 3 point civ, you might be stuck with a very bad leader, and I don't like the leader combos out there with China. In the format, I think the top leaders are CRE/ORG, IMP/ORG, EXP/ORG, and FIN/CHM. The last pairing might surprise people but given that this will be a naturally generated map, you could get stuck on happiness and get hosed. I would think CHM/ORG is definitely playable also especially if you get India, but if you take a 2 point leader combination, you are signaling that you are going for India/Inca, and the persons behind you could take both. Therefore, if you are willing to play India/Inca, you should be the 2nd to last or last in order to ensure you get at least one of them.

FIN/PHI is a slow starting combo and could be boxed in quickly so I don't value it that highly.

Assuming that the top 4 leaders are taken first, the 5 spot is in a tricky situation. You could take China and one of FIN/PRO, CHM/EXP. I really don't like the rest of the 3 point combinations. Or take IND/EXP and send off china to the last 2 players to figure it out.

As to the 2 point leaders, I would think CHM/ORG and CHM/IMP are the only playable ones. Maybe CHM/IND? If the map was water heavy, I would play EXP/PRO Inca for the midgame harbor+castle economy.

Order has been released I am in the superbad 6 slot (equivalent to the 5 slot above)... But it's worse because the chance I would get one of the top 4 leaders is even lower.

I am going to reconsider what I wrote about and take India if available and if all the top tier leader combos are gone. I can play any of the CHM leaders listed with ORG > IND > IMP.

Well so much for india. What to do if the other 3 leaders i like are gone. The problem is that the other choices have more risks. IND leaders: if you lose out on key wonders, you are in trouble, and due to the unknowns and DZ, someone might go something like henge/oracle before settler. Cre/phi: if you lose out on oracle, chances look bleak. FIN/AGG or PRO: 0 help on start like FIN/PHI. EXP/PHI? SPI/ORG? CHM/ORG of Inca?

I can buy the argument that starting with Agriculture is more than 0 help at start. To play, PHI, I think I need egypt, which is not guaranteed.

Now for my civ pick, the draft order is

Mongolia > Ethiopia > Russia > Khmer

EDIT: i overlooked that IMP/ORG is only 4 points. In that case Sumeria > Egypt > Ottomans > France

I guess in hindsight, India is not totally crazy 2nd since the Inca player is not likely going to go for CHM/ORG. However, very risky with a blind pick. If your only food resources require AH, you are in a world of hurt. Hunt/TW vs Hunt/MINE is very challenging. If your 2nd city can get a river connection, HUNT/MINE is superior because of the early BW. However, you never know so HUNT/TW is the safer pick.

Maybe I should have picked IMP/ORG and a AGRI/TW civ? Haven't played SP in a while but tried it and tech costs in Emperor are insane.

Ok so opening is that I am going to scout around and quickly find out my neighbors. As long as its not gavagai, who will probably take zulu, I am going open pottery first just for cottages before mining->BW. If I am bordering Gavagai, need BW so I don't die to impis.
