Enough games get run that sooner or later we're going to get weird things like Sitting Bull winning domination or Isabella winning her crusades. I'm always pulling for Monty to crazy himself into the next round.

Wow, I accidentally was on to something.

Y'all can criticize Roosevelt all you want (they certainly were on-stream), but the fact is that he played just about as well as he could have this game. He had a terrible position - his starting position was quite cramped to begin with, then Cyrus and Cathy advanced towards him right out of the gate, Cathy using a Holy City to culturally pressure the only good land he could get to. There was no way he could've gotten much land, and so with his position he COULDN'T do much in the game.

But it wasn't for lack of trying that he accomplished little. He did his best to get some land from Cathy while she was tied up with Izzy, but he didn't have enough resources to pull it off. After that he picked on Lizzy, the other weakling of the bunch besides Qin, and was eventually able to get several more cities from that, all while staying on good terms with both Cyrus and Izzy. Frankly, if he'd done any more, he probably would've been taken out by one of the giants. Roosevelt didn't have an undeserving second place - he was doomed by circumstances, but managed to squeeze by anyway, and so I'd say it was a well-deserved advancement for him.

If you want somebody who didn't play well, look at basically everybody else except for Isabella, who played a truly masterful game from start to finish.

Nice commentary.

If you compare his performance to one of the top tier AIs though, you see why people weren't impressed. I remember in season 1 or so, Mansa got stuck with like 4 cities and was the tech leader the entire game, out teching people with three times as many cities.

The proof should be in him getting thoroughly obliterated by the better AIs that will advance to the next round. Roosevelt is pretty often a terrible AI leader. We'll see what happens though, I certainly didn't expect Isabella to do well.

Oh, for sure, I'm not trying to say that he's a great leader. But everybody saying "Roosevelt does nothing and advances, this is ridiculous!" just isn't right. He tried to do stuff, and did as much as he could from the situation. A far cry from, say, Washington in game two last year where he truly could have done more.

Scoring was a bit rough in Game One, we were pretty bad as a group with the average score coming in at less than 6 points. Whoops. Let's hope we can all do better next time! lol

Mehmed's start is just I can't even. It looks edited.

It's Mehmed though. He'll find a way to settle city 2 on the horses.

Thanks for running this fourth season of AI Survivor, Sullla! Game One was quite entertaining, although it went very differently than my laughably wrong predictions. Game Two looks like it should also be interesting. Can Wang Kon troll the world again? lol

Thanks also for the classic Diablo. As someone who just started playing the game with the recent GOG release, your melee sorceror was fun to watch and very informative. thumbsup

Watching the series inspired me to fire up a 4-way team battlegrounds match. Emperor difficulty so my AI ally is supposed to be competent. We take an early lead, I land the oracle to grab CoL, and I'm thinking we've got this in the bag. Then my ally Ragnar dies to barbarians.

Rage quit.
