Yeah, I don't quite know what the last one means either

Neither did I, but I looked it up, because it's kind of what I do. (I work at the library.) Translated, that says basically, "Caesar and Suleiman will be best buds, and the Romans will eat everyone else," with everyone placed more or less correctly for their countries: Caesar ruled Rome; Nicomedes IV ruled in Asia Minor = Ottomanland; Vercingetorix led Gaulish armies in modern-day France; Ariovistus led a bunch of Germanic tribes; Viriathus fought (and failed) against Caesar in the west of the Iberian peninsula, including modern-day Portugal, and Juba I was ...... technically in Africa.

(Geographically, Juba really belongs in Carthage, but that was the best Asselis could do here: For all his conquering, Caesar never made it anywhere close to Southern Africa!)

Quote:While his aggression rating is only average at 5.7 out of 10, De Gaulle gets classified as an "Evil" leader via peace weight. He's actually as low as it's possible to go on the scale, sitting in the same position as leaders like Ragnar and Shaka. This suggests that someone at Firaxis was having some fun at De Gaulle's expense, especially when you consider how De Gaulle gets a rating of 0/10 in the "Resists Capitulating" category. Anyway, De Gaulle AI will be seriously unpopular with many of these other leaders, and that should produce some weird stuff before we're done.

Did De Gaule do anything to earn this low peace weight? Or is the idea that he'll get into a war with some random "good" leader and then immediately vassal himself if you let him?

IIRC he did some weird things like asking the allied DDay forces to let the French ride into Paris and then he claimed the French liberated themselves, but 1) it's been a long time and I just remember a general gist of "that's pretty ridiculous" on a bunch of occasions from him and 2) as far as I know he didn't do anything like the Japanese Unit 731, just sort of a goof. The French resistance probably wasn't terribly effective, but hey, they were fighting Nazis and were unquestionable the good guys.

I've seen it suggested some peace weights are to establish rivalries between certain civs like France and England, but I don't think that makes much sense unless Firaxis stated it. Then you've got France allied with Russia and England allied with Germany and Russia allied with Japan and it's just all over the place making no sense.

He did ask for Leclerc's troops to be the first to enter Paris. Amusingly, the first allied troops to enter Paris were from Leclerc's division but were Spanish veterans from the civil war.
Technically Paris and its suburbs did liberate themselves : the resistance took hold of most administrative centers as the allies were getting nearer, and held most of them against German counterattacks until Leclerc arrived.

The allies originally didn't plan on taking Paris until a couple of weeks later, but they allowed Leclerc to march on after hearing about the uprising in Paris (actually they didn't really care about the uprising but Leclerc moved forward anyway and they ended up accepting the situation). It was a win-win situation : give De Gaulle a concession on who entered the city first, take control of Paris weeks before schedule, without mobilizing too many troops.

I can't wait for this season to be over so I can launch panel data regressions on the picking contest to see whether a seed system helped or harmed our average scores dancing.
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

Just watched the awesome game by Caesar yesterday. If only the AP Victory counted. mischief

Actually about that. As we all have learned the AP Victory was still active, because Shaka did not have Mass Media. But what if say de Gaulle obsoleted the AP with Mass Media, the UN was active and Shaka without Mass Media captures the AP. Would the AP reactivate?

Game Four Picking Contest Entry Form

Congratulations to absynthe as the winner of Game Three's picking contest with 22 points. thumbsup Scoring was much better for this game, with an average of 11.35 points after lows of 5.67 points (Game One) and 4.62 points (Game Two). It helps when the favorite lands for both Winner and First to Die.

We are back to our normal Friday date for next week's game. Do you like religious wars? Because almost every AI in the next game starts with Mysticism and is obsessed with religion. Should be fun - hope to see you there!
