[SPOILERS] DaveV and Kandros Fir sing songs about money

Thematically, Mining first for the gold was a must!

Obviously you're playing to win instead mischief .

More seriously, it's an interesting start, requiring a bunch of techs to get the starting tiles developed.

I actually considered that, but agriculture was a lot faster and calendar gives me a lot more commerce than mining, plus bonus food.

Just a Google image, I'm afraid.

Triple post for big in-game news:

A wild Aurorarcher appears. Graphs confirm that he's not researching Calendar. I'm going to put him at 9 scout moves away, call it about 15 tiles, which is approximately right for a 52 tile wide map. Aurorarcher is a very good player, so I'm going to assume he's got a legitmate reason for ignoring Calendar, which is usual an automatic choice after agriculture.

No picture, but his scout ducked back into the fog on turn 10. A good choice, since my warriors would have 96% odds if he comes too close.

After waiting for demos to update, it turns out Auro is in fact researching Calendar, so no mystery there. Cairo apparently got the +1 population event (no events for me yet); Mack built his worker one turn early because of IND bonus, and is one turn ahead of Auro and me on capital growth. Who knows what superjm is doing; he's still at size 1.

And I screwed up my micro, but no surprise there duh

Meh. I'll eventually mine this tile, since hammers are at a premium and food is plentiful, but it's possible I may work it a turn or two before that.

In other news, I'm still behind mackoti and Mr. Cairo in the growth curve, but ahead of Aurorarcher. And way ahead of superjm, who's either going double worker or settler first? In any case, his first adventurer was born several turns ago.

I've farmed the bananas because it's an identical tile yield to a plantation after I revolt to agrarianism, and I have a second banana which can give me the health bonus. Farming the pigs is -1 food compared to a pasture, but I won't have animal husbandry for a while and more food now is worth three more worker turns later. I farmed the grassland because I lost my mind for a couple turns. I'm following my usual rule of commerce first: next tile to be improved is incense, followed by cotton (a weak tile, but commerce is commerce).

Only because of turn order, but I have to take advantage of my opportunities to brag.

I took one look at the start and thought "this would be really interesting to spend several days working out the micro - so many choices!". Then I went off and did something else lol .

For science! More importantly, you're number one in potential gold income. You may be having to spend your commerce on such fripperies as science right now, but one day there will be gold! Piles and piles of loverly gold.

The diplo hit doesn't matter in multiplayer, but anything that isn't a big bag of money is de facto a bad event, especially if the other guys are benefiting (like Cairo and his free population growth).
