Civ4 AI Survivor: Season Four

This was an interesting and exciting game. nod The overall quality of the leaders in a playoff game was apparent -- while there were of course stronger and weaker performances, we did not see any complete duds as sometimes happens with the weaker AIs. There were a few moments of abject AI stupidity, one of which blew up my picks (again duh). A fun game to watch.

Thanks again for doing all of this, Sullla! thumbsup

I agree! It was a terrific watch! I don’t want to get too into spoilers yet, but this was a game where I felt like every single leader had a legitimate chance of winning it. (Even if it was only an outside chance for one of the six.)

I mentioned it during the stream, but after the championship game, this is a game where I’d love to download the starting map and see how it plays out again. Without getting too specific, I’m curious if any patterns will emerge for the early war declarations. I’m also curious about which of the leaders will emerge as clear winners and losers, if any.

I did that for last seasons championship game. Got one Stalin win, one Caesar win and two (!) Justinian wins. That guy just plays well. What was interesting was though was that over the 4 games (and the real one), those three were the last three civs alive every single time. Kublai, Mansa and Pacal all died in every game first, often in that order. So for that game at least, seems like there were definitely common winners and losers.

This game is also at the top of my list for "run 10 more iterations and see what happens" after the season ends. I agree that this game could have gone in a bunch of different ways and I'm curious how a bunch of different repetitions would have played out.

Ghandi almost always has a bad opponent draw, but this may be the worst draw I've ever seen in any civ game ever.

Too bad that I didn't watch it live due busy with work. So I did watch stream today from beginning till end without spoiling myself and naturally I am very pleased with the result after watching for 3 hours. nod
Stone nearby Willem's capital caused me to gamble for his culture victory and Kublai's gold hills for his 2nd place, glad to see my gamble paid off!

Next play off round is bascially public execution for certain someone...

Playoff Game Two picks...wow. Tough to choose. I can envision several possible scenarios for who will win. But trying to decide who comes in second? crazyeye

Should be another interesting game. nod

I'm also quite pleased with my prediction that the dessert and ice would mess with Kublai. I don't know what it is, but there is something in the AI that REALLY jacks it up.

I mean in this case it was sort of a blessing in disguise, since KK avoided that land at ALL costs and thrust himself into the game early on. I think he would have come WAY less close to victory had he not had that desert and ice nearby.

I was extremely impressed with Willem's performance in all phases of the game. Great early expansion that allowed for a great tech lead, recovered from an early war loss and even managed to survive at 2v1 later. The only complaint is him stupidly turning off research, but that's already in the extreme late game.

Soo, next game.... how close to 100% will Gandhi be in first to die category?
