Championship Game Picking Contest Entry Form

Congratulations to LaserGuy as the winner of Playoff Game Three's picking contest with 21 points. thumbsup Scoring for the group as a whole was about average overall despite an unexpected leader winning. We are continuing with a special Saturday date for the championship in the hopes that more people will be able to watch the final live, and waiting an extra week until 20 July to give more advance notice. We're down to our final six AI competitors - who will emerge as our overall winner?

Special thanks again to Commodore for creating the map used for the final. nod

That is an interesting bit of info, Fluffball. I had not realized Kublai's unit build preference was that low. I tend to think of the Mongols as primarily a warmonger civ with their unique items both being military in nature and both leaders having the aggressive trait. But a look in the XML shows Kublai has a unit build probability of 25. For comparison that is the same as Lincoln's. (Of course, historically Lincoln's government did plenty of fighting, so maybe not a true peacemonger comparison.) Shaka and Napoleon have 40.

Still, Kublai has made it into the championship game enough times that I consider him to be one of the better AIs. At least under the conditions of AI Survivor. We will have to wait a couple weeks to see how he does this time.

I am looking forward to the championship game. Should be fun. nod

Kublai's peaceweight is rock bottom, which also just sort of put him in my mind as a militaristic civ, but he's really nothing like some of the real conquering civs. He has the military flavor which is sort of at odds.

It may be that his "all over the place-ness" is why he's mildly successful but not a true winner. If he were a high peace weight civ I think he'd be Bismark quality trash. BTW Bismark has a higher unit build preference.

Edit: I'm not so much ragging on KK, just marveling at the monstrosity that is AI survivor. Bismark is one of the worst AIs in the game probably even outside this competition, and yet let's look at a quick comparison.

They both have military flavors
They both have fairly strong wonder building preference (30)
Bismark has a higher unit build preference (30 vs 25)
They both have useless unique units in the hands of the AI

... I mean I think the fact that Kublai gets along with people like Stalin and Julius and Bismark gets along with people like Roosevelt and Frederick is meaningful...

Wondering if part of the strength of Gandhi is if he's less prone to getting confused about which victory condition he's pursuing.

Does anyone know how the AIs decide on victory conditions? How much of it is actual planning, and how much is just following their general strategy (war, culture, science, etc.) and eventually a victory happens if they are not stopped?

One of the more obvious decisions is whether or not to turn on the culture slider, and if yes then when to do so. The AI sometimes reverses that decision, too, so there is obviously some logic around that. Anyone have any idea just what is involved?

Well that's Saturday sorted then. Buy beers, watch stream, write very stupid comments which to my beer addled mind sound absolutely hilarious.

Quick reminder: the Championship Game will be taking place next Saturday on July 20th. However, we will have an AI Survivor stream tomorrow, a little side game that should be fun. I'll be streaming at the normal time for anyone interested in catching it. smile

What AIs did you pick for the game today? Did you make a 3rd and 4th place match?
