Us Yanks butcher all kinds of words. We take a sort of perverse pride in it, even. lol

Mostly it has to do with the Norman conquest of England, and the mutant combined language that resulted as a huge amount of French got absorbed into the common folks' non-Latin-based language from their new French-speaking overlords.

Don't we all know the correct pronunciation from Sir. Cool himself?

If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Just want to point out that, in spite of all the surprises this season, the very worst total picking contest score among those who participated for every single game is ... random.org! It isn't even close. Now, part of that might be that players with low scores are more likely to lose interest in the contest, but it looks like randomly throwing darts at a board really isn't a good way to pick a winner, even when things seem unusually insane!

Well, at least you can always call him Burger King in Civ!

The man's name is Karolus Magnus.

French was already a blend of Frankish (a version of proto-Low German) and Latin. The grammar was definitely more Latin, but many of the words came from German roots.

Modern English is more of a case of a Germanic language (it's actually very close in structure to Frisian) which has adopted (a ton of) loan words from many other languages. The biggest source of loan words, coming from the Normans, was medieval French, hence many words in English closer to medieval French than modern French (eg castle being closer to medieval French castel than the modern French chateau {sorry for the lack of accent}).

I will pray harder to the RNG next year! Honest!

I am surprised the RNG entry did not do a bit better, considering some of the big upsets this season. Hmmm, I wonder if the RNG did better (on a relative basis) for games where the overall average score was lower? I need to look at the data now that the final results are all in.

I went ahead and added the Conclusion page for Season Four today. There are direct links on that page to the Survivor Season 4 Excel spreadsheet and savegame files, with the saves in both normal and Worldbuilder formats. Please feel free to play around with the data to your heart's content. If you want to replay any of the games from this season, I'd suggest starting from the Worldbuilder save file and making sure to turn off "Preserve Random Seed", as otherwise you're likely to see a very similar game to what played out.

This is pretty much the end for Season Four of Civ4 AI Survivor. If you've been enjoying the Livestreams on each Friday, don't worry: I'm planning to start a "Civ Fridays" feature where we play various turn-based strategy games together during the same time slot. Our first game will naturally be Civ4, which I haven't played in a non-AI context in quite some time. Should be fun. Thanks again everyone. smile

Can we give a forum shoutout to whoever created the best trait pair in the game?

Gotta nominate Alpha Centauri to do sometime on your Civ Fridays, post somewhere here when you do and I'll follow along.
