While I'm waiting for the screenshots I've been thinking of what to play. I kind of want to play some kind of SPI leader and I was wondering if anyone knows any good games to read through for someone who utilized SPI really well.

I'm globally lurking this one, but I figured I'd stop in and at least say hi! Also, I can try to answer your question:

1) This is from an old, old game, and there have been a lot of changes to civics since, and it's a lonnnnnnng thread, but this is basically the definitive Spi game from a reporting perspective: Krill in PB5.

2) The wnning team in the most-recently finished Pitboss played Spi to the hilt, and reported pretty well, but didn't really explain the reasons for their switches, and if you read quickly, you'll miss which civics they switch to when (to the extent that's even made clear). Still a good read, I think: Old Harry et al in PB42

3) In PB37, the Khatunate threadd (JR4 and me) is basically a great example of how not to play Spiritual (and why you shouldn't play Spiritual as a relative MP novice) ... and still somehow compete from a bad position in a pretty strong field. It's a fun read but doesn't really help understand the trait except that some vets provide some great insights about the trait after the game is over, starting around here.

With or without Spiritual, good luck with this one, BaII!

Hi RefSteel, thanks for those threads, I'll be sure to take a look at all those threads when I have the free time.

I'm well aware that the majority of SPI's power requires high levels of play to really utilize effectively and I would probably be better served with traits that have more plain power. It's just with this large of a playing field (17 players) I'm worried if a lot of those kinds of leaders will already be taken especially if I'm near the end of the snake pick. Maybe I'm just over worried about that since the power distribution is a lot more even in RtR than base BtS.

Hopefully this goes a lot better than my previous PB endeavors on Realms Beyond.

Mhmmmm, I don't like how this capital has so many coastal tiles. I'm tempted to move to the tile 1W of the wheat and settle there. I'll probably move my scout onto that tile to see if it's worthwhile to give up two turns for it.

The nice thing is that there a lot hills to work for production. I could possibly take IMP and just stagnate the city on a lot of mines for to churn out settlers.

Oh wait I just realized that there's a river hiding underneath the tile sign. I was wondering why I didn't have a source of fresh water...

I'm thinking about picking Babylon here since I don't think I'll be going for pottery for a long time. Since this start is going to need a lot of things for it to work. I'm also going to need that road network I don't think I'll be able to connect my second city without.

Dam I actually wanted Pacal for the Financial bonus since I do have a lot of dry cottages and coast tiles that my capital will want to work. I also really wanted expansive since I'll be building both a work boat and worker for this start especially since WB doesn't look good with only the clams resource. I'm almost tempted to pick Fin/Org buttttt I think I need to replace one of those with a more early game focused trait.

After some sims on pen and paper it looks like pasturing first is the correct play.

Once I finish the worker I'll work the wheat tile for 3Ts and then work a 2f/1h tile for 1T, by then the pasture finishes.

After working the cows and growing to size 2 the wb will finish 1T after the city grows. I can pick pick up the grassland wheat for 1T before the I net the clams and that will get me to grow in 4T with the +1 food overflow from size 1. When I grow to size 3 the farm will also complete.

That's the best I could do so far with the pasture first, I need to do some more sims with farm first though to see if I can come up with anything better.
