Note to self after looking through event list:
-Don't hook up 5th happiness resource until required.
-Always keep a minimum of at least 20 gold in reserve (related to the above, but also a lot of other positive events).

Looking through the entire list of remaining events has reminded me that I don't think they belong in MP games, but I guess there's not much harm in keeping it on for this one for variety's sake. It's got a big majority and at least it will add some excitement to the daily logins. But I doubt most of the voters bothered to look through the list.

And yet, huts are off. Boo to half measures.

I hope that's not the direction these games are going. When I look at old PB reports and see talk of people popping techs from huts and similar I groan. But you're right, we're already introducing some luck by choice so where do you draw the line? It's a slippery slope.

Thanks for setting up the map and taking on the ire of everyone TBS!  hippy

Scary landshape, hopefully I don't get boxed in. Also another start where the best food tile seemingly can't get shared. Maybe that will finally push me to pick a creative leader to open up options for 2nd and 3rd cities, but I don't rate the trait generally. At least there are ways to use the food surplus in this one.

Worst case snake pick but hopefully I can think of something exciting. Neither early (pick good civ) nor last (pick good combo) but in the middle of a large field. On the bright side I won't feel forced to pick a very strong but boring civ (like 45 hammer granaries), and creative hopefully will still be easily available. Although many people actually rate it so we'll see. I tend to prefer later game bonuses but it might be an idea to pick an early UU for once to break out of being boxed it. I need to look over the reworked civs again.

Things I definitely don't want:
-Imperialistic. Part of the strength of that trait is giving your starting food to a neaby city and working mines for settlers, but I can't trade away anything.
-Financial. No early help other than clam which will be ignored for a while. Will just take organized instead if I want a later bonus.

OTOH something like Zara might be good. As mentioned I want creative as I can't rely on any starting BFC tiles for my 2nd city. Makes sense to pair it with a later trait. If I pick a civ first I'd still be happy with something like Suryavarman as a backup. As for civs I'm hoping Germany will still be available. Great techs and personally I think the UU is excellent. It's late, but it's something you can build/plan around.

The best I can hope for this game given my position is Louis (cre/ind) of Germany.

Biggest surprise so far: India still unpicked!

I thought I'd have to settle on Germany, but if India is still available 2 picks from now I'll have a hard time leaving it. Mining/myst is OK for my start, the only issue is that mysticism goes poorly with creative, so I'll need to rethink leader choices.

But I shouldn't get my hopes up, most likely pindicator or Gav will pick it. I mean, it's a cheap granary with +1 happy -- that's incredible! And the UU destroys knights.

You're killing me Gavagai! Leaving me hanging for an unknown amount of time making me F5 the forums constantly.

Why India is so good and I'm surprised it's unpicked:
A cheap granary is universally useful no matter how the game/map pans out, and the extra happiness comes in very handy. Yes, other civs have happiness bonuses too, like the Maya ball court for +4, but those don't compare. This is +1 when you need it the most, right after you get your granary and you rarely have many (if any) luxury resources hooked up nor hereditary rule. It's very difficult to manage happy caps at that time so I think it's a top tier UB. And the UU doesn't detract from the civ either. Pity about mysticism, but I'll live with that.

Gav taking Germany made this real easy. In an ideal world I get Mehmed on the return -- my clear 1st choice. If not there's a good chance I pick creative even with mysticism as a starting tech and pretend monuments don't exist. Having one of mining or hunting to start with is enough for this start already.
