He's prone to that, but he normally means it in a good way. I think.

Edited. Dropbox is trying to make direct links difficult again. At least they didn't break the old links (yet).

I should know better than to defy the RNG. I have a new least favorite event:

The first choice costs me enough gold for three warrior-to-chariot upgrades; the second hamstrings my best GPP city; the third is even worse than the mouseover says: it puts my capital into revolt for five turns, meaning no hammers, no gold, no beakers from my best city. There's a follow-up event for the third option that gives a Mercenary with Fire I, but it's just not worth it. I decided on the second option as the best of a bad lot, which made Simply Red very unhappy:

Not a city name, but just a commentary on my RNG luck:

After all my lamentations about RNG luck, it turns out there's a continuation to the second option that leads to a free adept:

Mea culpa, RNG. Now I have an adept who can cast Blaze and Enchanted Blade. Aurorarcher is already enchanting some of my blades, but now he has plausible deniability. In a few turns the adept should gain enough XP to grab Mobility; for now, I thought Enchantment I was more important.

Mack offered open borders (refused) and a map trade (accepted). He has hawks now, so the map trade isn't telling him anything he can't find out for himself.

I finished Sanitation, but Simply Red is still going to starve down one population point. Probably a worthwhile deal as an exchange for a unit I can't build, and whose enabling tech is not on my priority path.

From my limited experience the adept is free but had destroyed several building in the city first....
Which is not exactly my definition of free :smile

On the plus side, Dave can now go back to ranting about how the RNG has messed with him without guilt.

Yeah, reaching here :-( .

I lost an Elder Council in the capital, which I can replace in two turns. So, minimal cost?

Copied from the EitB pitboss thread:

(February 27th, 2013, 10:57)DaveV Wrote: I've been doing some research on Blinding Light, and its odds are pretty bad. Base resistance is 50%, +10% in cities, +5% per level of unit, +20% for hero. So Gibbon would be at 95% resistance outside cities, 100% in cities. One more promo needed for 100% resistance outside cities. If that's their plan for counterattack against us, I think I'll take those odds.

For my own reference, I'm adding a list of promotions on the caster that will alter the resistance of units being attacked (Rathas/Radiant Guards don't start with any of these smile):
Avatar -50
Channelling II/III -10 each
Potency -10
Metamagic I/II/III -5 each
Puppet +20
Tower of Alteration  -20

Spell damage:
Combat I/II/III/IV/V +5 each
Metamagic I/II/III +5 each
Puppet -10
Unholy Taint +10

On defense, units get a base resistance of defense*2 + level*2 + (city cultural defense)/4. Any type resistance (death, fire, lightning, etc.) is added to this base number.
Nominal damage is the base damage of the spell (40 for Snowfall) plus any modifiers. Two random numbers in the range (0-nominal) are generated, and added together. This
sum is multiplied by (100-resistance)/100.
If this modified damage is greater than the spell max damage (80 for Snowfall), it is limited to the maximum.

Mack declared war last turn but hasn't done anything yet (unless he caused this event somehow):

I finished mining all my hills and popped my world spell. That gave me enough cash to upgrade six warriors to chariots:

Which vaults me from fourth place in power to third:

Mack also has the werewolf and Esus now, and Cairo, his apparent competitor, is flooding my territory with units. Interesting times ahead...

I generated a 61% great merchant at the end of T123; I'm going to try to send him into Cairo's territory.

Mack has Nox Noctis and is way ahead of me in tech, so there's no way I can attack him. On the other hand, I don't think he has the right tools to attack into my cities with their high cultural defense. Mack declared war on Cairo last turn, so maybe the elves are next on the hit list?

As I said at the time, I was impressed by Auro's beeline to Mobius Witches. Unfortunately, he was bordered by mack, who had the perfect counter.
