First round went to me. Next up Medieval.

Medieval start enhances the following civs imo. All late bloomers. Civs like Arabia you actually want classical era to upgrade units into Mamelucks.

Quite a lot stronger:

Germany
Start with Hansa, next commercial. Uboats come early.

America
Actually worth considering with a later start, though I guess we would renaissance or industrial for that.

Japan
Samurais need to be handbuilt anyway.

Australia
Stronger, in a duel somewhat okay, I guess, you will get a dow.

Ottomans
Late stuff

England
Cheap Harbours, rule the seas instantly, strangle the other guy.

Hmm, I am slotting in Germany, I think. Tempted by America.

Well, no sense in staying at the coast especially with my capital. Germany is a late bloomer and I do not want my capital to be attackable from sea.

Barbs become a real issue thanks to machinery on both players probably.

   

Explains the culture of Alhambram, nice wonder to have.

Seems Alhambram is having even more issues with the medieval start then I have. We both have special districts and our empire score is 96:63 in my favour which does not bode well.

I am doing city walls at all my harbours and have 5-6 archers with garrison in place. I am getting defensive catapults ready and will turtle down and tech/produce away.

2 cities dead next turn 1 FREAKING turn before walls finish in both. Alhambram just got damn lucky.
