[SPOILERS] - Dubious strategies and poor life choices: pindicator's thread

EDIT: Felt like this thread deserved a more civ-centric title.

I feel like I'm 12 again.

Also, there may be a civ 6 game reported in here later on.

Initial Thoughts

I don't really like this lineup.

Mongolia is out.  Yes, it's the best one, heads and shoulders above the rest.  Keshik is a great killing machine, and really just mounted in general is awesome for these guys.  They do one thing, do it really well, and for that reason I have no interest in playing them.

Kongo is probably out as well.  They're neat for single player, but I can't bank on another player giving me religion, so I'm likely to be hampered into not having access to all my abilities.  In addition, great artists are the hardest of the theater district people to get and they come pretty late in the game for the Nkisi bonus to amount to much.  So just the Ngao Mbeba, which is a decent boost over a sword, but not really special, or exciting.  Same with the Mbanza.  Not really exciting.

Guess that means it's either Kristina or Tamar....

The strategy for Tamar seems pretty straight forward: get a religion and then chain golden ages. An interesting note is that our house rules for city states slightly nerfs Georgia as you will never be able to use their Protectorate War cassus belli. Not that you would anyway. Chaining golden ages seems pretty strong, and Tamar does get extra faith generation, so you could potentially just go off with monumentality. The downside to me is that I would need to memorize the era points list and really hope I don't get unlucky.

Didn't someone try this in an early game and just get destroyed in the early game?

Kristina seems like she could make for a strong culture game, but everything comes later. The tourism bonuses really don't do much for a multiplayer game. The open air museum seems like you can make 6 culture easy per city, which seems very strong. The diplomatic favor could come in helpful for trying to push through world congress items you like. Queen's Bibliotheque seems like a good single player building.

Can I get to those strong late game bonuses if I pick her? I was actually thinking she was the front runner choice for me until I realized that Kristina gets nothing until around like the Rennaisance era. Unless you can put together a great strategy for world congress, then I guess you can get an early great scientist and try to dictate terms. But I don't see that as winning.

Dammit, it's going to be Mongolia isn't it?

1) Each player gets rolled 3-4 options, and either locks one in or chooses to re-roll.
2) Everyone who chose to re-rolls gets another random set (including those that were thrown back in round one) and picks one to play.

Wanted to make sure you are aware this is how the picks are being made, so you have the option of a re-roll.

Oh I missed that.

Reroll!

Thanks. I might be a day or two with my choice. Been battling a head cold turned sinus infection and I'm feeling rather loopy

Well now I have the opposite problem: I kind of like all of these choices!

Actually I think I cross off the Zulu for the same reason I crossed Mongolia: civs whose only flavor is a stronger military seem boring to me. I prefer some kind of economic gameplay in addition to a strong/useful UU.

Korea and Scotland are both strong science civs, but with different flavors.

But right now what I'm really intrigued by is combining the Khmer's leader ability with the newly buffed River Goddess pantheon.  Riverside Holy Sites would give 2 food, 3 housing, and 2 amenities. It's hard to jump to this without knowing the map: a dearth of rivers would really hurt, for insurance. But they also have a mobile siege unit, which I could see using to enhance mid game warfair.

If I'm the only one holding things up I could lock that in now but I'd like to spend a little more time on it first
