So how does Cornflakes do?

Not good. I see a distinct lack of awareness that just because you have -5 penalty as a defender in my case, you still get +6 fortification and +3 to +6 for terrain.

Add to that that my warriors on the coast get +5, your Varus may look impressive but they are not really. Add +2 from support and -2 for flanks (he can exactly flank 1 unit).

I expect Cornflakes to decide that this invasion is not worth it any turn from now.

So I whittle down his first Varu and have a decision. To kill or not to kill?

Kill it is. If he attacks my redlined horseman, the Varu will be shot 5 times and attacked once. I have enough reserves so that the Horseman won´t make much of a difference and 2 dead Varus and nothing to show might make him reconsider.

Not that all of that is moot anyway with Alhambram running away with the game.

In any case, my defense is holding, a Horseman does exactly the same amount of damage as he gets against a dug in Warrior and Oligarchy is around the corner.
I doubt I can conquer any of Cornflakes stuff though, as he has 1 more city and if I am not dug in and prepared he could actually win something.

But this invasion is over. Walls, defenders and 4 archers are in place. It is now a question of how much stuff I may kill before Cornflakes concedes. hammer

Ah yes.

I CONCEDE TO ALHAMBRAM.

The newly added Hungary on the Ban list says it all. shades

The second good thing to come out is that people may be more wary of trying to rush me.

Well, Cornflakes is smart. He aborts this useless attack.

Turn 67

I will try to get some settlers and expansion going, but this is over.smile

Yeah, I doubt I can get my trainwreck going again in terms of yields, but I will try.

Thanks for tossing the already loopsided game towards Alhambram, Cornflakes.

I hope Cornflakes finds the concede button soon.

China down to 1 city. banghead

Overview:

More luck in PBEM 17 I hope.

Hit End Turn, waiting on concede.

No miracle will happen. I think I can double my yields soon, which means I am at 1/2 of Hungary.

Yay.

Any updates? Any plans to take out your city state neighbors or try to rapidly expand to catch up to Alhambram?

I decided against updates.

I can probably get 3-4 more cities going, double my science and culture over the next few turns.

But it won´t matter. China is down to one city and if Alhambram takes it (and he will with his science and culture), we are done.

If Cornflakes and me would not have wasted 20 turns engaging in a big buildup so that he can suicide one Varu we might stand a chance.

But we really, really do not.

As it stands, my concession stands.

I had hoped to abandon this thread as to speed up the concession. Thanks Woden. shades

Note that I am 2nd in science and I still think we are done for. Sigh. 2 settlers incoming. Faith is invested into libraries.

As soon as Cornflakes makes peace I will ask for a DoF so we can kill our CS. Cornflakes has fortified/parked his elephants on our border? What are they doing there? Wasting away? Protecting himself against my warrior counterattack??  banghead banghead

Do something, man! As it is I can not move my border army.

I think I will hold off on my analysis of this game until PBEM #17 is done because a lot of what went wrong this game feeds into the next.

Hungary may be a bit overpowered if you can get an envoy machine going.

Things I did right:

- Maybe the defense against Cornflakes, but nothing really. I had a decent and quick start but fell off.

Things I did soso:

- Decent scouting at the start (met 2-3 CS first), fell off quickly. I need to build more then 1 scout again. Or use the warrior more.

Things I screwed up:

- Culture is more important then it was back before GS
- My city placement is still very SP optimized and not MP optimized. Gotta change.
