[spoilers] The Emperor Protects(?) Mr. Cairo PB45

I've had a closer look at the land I'd be moving through to invade SD, and it's really flat. I'd hope that SD's HAs are over closer to Naufragar, but there's no guarantee. So I've decided to not use my GG for a medic, but to split the xp between a four units: My Chariot, and 3 CKNs. I can turn the Chariot into a sentry, and promo-heal the CKNs so the invasion can begin sooner.

Maybe it's just my paranoia from
PB43
spilling into this one, but SD hasn't played yet, but has posted in his thread. And very shortly after I played, he started to play all of his pitbosses.

Is he trying to stay after me on the turn timer? I had planned to play after him for the next little while so I could get the second half for my attack. So, is SD afraid of me attacking and wants to keep the second half the timer with me, or is he planning on attacking me. How likely is it that SD would want to attack me while also being in a (losing) war with Naufragar? Any other player, and I'd dismiss it instantly, but it's certainly possible for SD. But there's no need to overreact, I can still continue preparations for my attack on SD, while staying safe from any potential aggression from SD.

Firstly, I moved the units that were staging between Luna and Terra into Luna (both Luna and Maccragge can be attacked from the fog with HAs if SD roads towards them). They were mostly units I had up north during the war with MS that I didn't take to Baal, and a recently built Treb and CKN. It doesn't change the direction I'm going to attack from, but it does move them further from my cap and the north, but that area is covered by the units I've just dropped off from Baal.

The highlighted units in the bottom left are in Luna.

I also set Macragge onto Walls after the CKN it just finished.
One other thing, I thought I'd need to split the GG xp 4 ways so my Chariot would have enough to get Sentry, but then I thought I saw that it already had 1 xp, so I added the wounded Treb to the mix. But I must have been mistaken, because my Chariot only ended up with 4 xp. So I'm going to have to use it in a battle to get the next level, which is really annoying.

Anyway, hopefully I'm just being paranoid (being next to SD does seem like a good justification for paranoia, tbh). But, also hopefully he is planning an attack, sends in his army in a few turns, and lets me wipe it out in my own territory. That would be convenient.

In general I try to match the prexisting turn split. What's the SD/Nau split now? Nothing kills a game pace like a 3-way split.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

it was naufragar then SD. But I don't think me going after SD would effect the turn-pace. We're always waiting on MS for 3-6+ hours at the end of every turn anyway.

SD sent me a PM saying he declared war on me this turn, so I guess the turnsplit issue is moot anyway. Now, is this because he wanted the second half of the turn time during my invasion, or is he planning an attack on me? I think I have to play it carefully, and keep an eye on power dips from any SD-Nauf fighting. I might also think about focusing on his islands first. If he's got an HA army near to me, I'll need a lot more Spears to be able to both attack and keep my cities safe at the same time.

SD sent another peace offer, no map demand this time. Still rejecting it. Naufragar retook his capital, I'm going to gather my forces and move towards his new one soonish. I had planned on waiting until after the peace treaty with MS ended to see what he would do, but judging from the near-endless stream of Triremes that are being sent towards him by GKN, I don't see him getting to Baal again any time soon.

I really hope SD is actually fighting Naufragar, and isn't going to keep whatever units he has left around to attack me when I do invade. I might be better off waiting until Naufragar kills SD and then attack him. CKNs are probably better against Samurai than they are against HAs.

A great day has dawned in the Imperium, that abomination of dot-mapping Cheeto Fuhrer has finally been eradicated:

I also took the coastal city. I have a settler coming from the cap in 2 turns to found Inwit, and more will follow. I also asked GKC for some of their spare happiness resources now that there's no real point to them propping up SD. Although SD is apparently causing trouble to Nauf to the north, it looks as though he moved his HA horde through MS's territory to strike at Nauf's underbelly. Which is good for me. I offered SD a peace treaty, hopefully he'll take it and I'll be able to regroup and prepare for either a continuation of the mainland war, targeting Nauf, or an invasion of SD's islands. Or both. I'm going to keep on building CKNs and Trebs though.

Of course, no city conquest would be complete without losing highly-promoted (for me at least) units at low odds:

The first (CR2) treb surviving a coin toss (2nd unpromoted one lost the coin toss) and a Sword winning at 42% (attacking an archer in Trumpanzies from a galley) don't really make up the loss of the CKNs.

But hey, can't make an omelette without breaking a few (more) eggs (than expected).

Founded the first of three cities where SD had one:

Naufragar is pillaging tiles Inwit will soon expand onto, which is, in my opinion, a dick move. Nevertheless, I think I'm going to try expanding peacefully the next little while, I've got a few more cities on the mainland I can settle, and a bunch of fishing villages:

All of which will be profitable thanks to FIN.

But if Naufragar continues with the dick moves I might just attack anyway. I think we have comparable numbers of CKN/Samurai, but CKN beat Samurai, so I shouldn't have that much of a problem. Maybe I'll just take BabyHandsTrump in the next few turns. Take advantage of Naufragar's current weakness thanks to SD razing those cities of his.

To Naufragar:

So first he was pillaging stuff like Mines and Pastures around my new cities in ex-SD land.

Then I saw that he was abandoning the city of SD's nearest me, and I saw all his Samurai far away. So I moved an army up to take it, figuring he was just deciding not to contest it and give it up to me peacefully. To show that I don't want a real war, I didn't kill the last Spear Naufragar had near my stuff (hoping he would show the same courtesy to my scouting Spear). But no, instead I open the turn to a Peace Offer from him, which I rejected of course, wanting to actually take the city first. But then I find that Naufragar had killed my scouting Spear, and pillaged the last mine it was sitting on (and then deleted it).

I don't get it, why does he seem so intent of antagonising me, yet is moving all his troops away from me? What does he hope to gain by making an enemy out of me? I was hoping to stay at peace for now and try and catch up in cities, let MS and GKC continue to duke it out and hopefully slip into a possible winning position. I had assumed that Nau would want to do the same, especailly considering the ities he lost to SD recently.

But if he wants a deathmatch for third place, I'm more than willing. hammer hammer

I felt (somewhat) bad about accepting this one:

since...

I've been thinking about attacking SD and taking that city for a while now, and with the war between GKC and MS starting (and the game's end fast approaching) I figured now's the time.

If he'd including a Fish-for-Fish in that deal, I would have rejected it...
