Turn 95
2 turns to plop down the central commerce city.
I want to talk about grabbing the city next to aztec.
That far island is amazing - fish, crab, sugar, copper. It's the only sugar I see (hopefully, not the only sugar aztecs see) Aztec is not all that dangerous to us - their sword sucks compared to our axe, even taking cities. Plant on the copper and you get a 2 hammer city center and a pretty safe location.
Normally, I don't recommend settling up like that, but it's such a good spot, and I don't think that aztec is in a particularly good spot to knock us out of it.
Thing is, I don't know how GKC will react to that. I don't know him all that well. Will he turn murderous?
Also - is that an Aztec name? Any idea what number city that is? I guess with city trading disabled, we can't see how many cities he has. I might go figure it out from PBSpy.

If we plant there it should be on the hill, imo. To me GKC seems like he has more experience on fast paced online games which are more about warring and less about building into the late game, so he could very well be warlike. And it would be a "pink dot", hard to reinforce and a bit isolated at least before the other islands are settled. OTOH GKC shouldn't be on the level of rb veterans. Edit: Pb44 was quite different situation, but there I was actually pushing for aggression early against Gavagai as I saw the situation so hopeless.
Where did we meet DS?

Must have just happened (DS). I didn't notice it last turn.
I'll login tonight and see. How did I miss that? I assume a workboat showed up somewhere.

You saying "pink dot" kind of cools my jets. You are correct - it is a pink dot. I have learned that a great way to ruin someone's game is to pink dot them. It's one thing to use a trait like imperialistic aggressively and build to the best disputed spots, but settling in someone's face is gonna piss them off.
Doing it to the AI in SP is fun - doing it in a fast duel or something is fine. In a game like this, though, I've found it leads to unwanted wars.
I think it would not be hard to hold, but I agree that we should not push it. Just settle our homeland and big island and scout west and settle the islands and then see.

No sign of DS. I'm sending a workboat west, which is where I presume DS is.

Guess GKC likes that spot, too
I think we should settle this island soon, particularly with GKC making moves. It looks good and we want to claim these islands.
There is also a nice 2 grass hill/fish/sheep island to our west. I'm building a galley in our collosus city to settle this way.
Right now, cities are basically building settlers or workboats (except for a couple), trying to drive expansion. We have 2 settlers on the way - one for the east whales and one for the wheat/fish to the southwest. That's mainly driven by workers being there, ready to set it up.

I definitely agree, settling in the direction where we have a neighbour should be priority. So far GKC hasn't even been guarding his settlers/cities, that's bit greedy. I think we should at least get a token defense like archer to the island cities. I think that the capital settler should go to the eastern island if the galley is in position. Backfill settling can be delayed.

I played the turn and I'll post some pics, but the east settler is very high priority - DS has an island right next to it! His WB is heading back up north.
He has currency, btw.
We will settle there in 5 turns - settler and galley are made next turn (I whipped the galley), galley moves out 1 while settler moves forward, settler loads and galley moves, galley moves and unloads settler, settler settles.

I think we should get military there early, we could take the unit from Zimbir while sailing.
