My unspoiled guesses:
I really want this to be a clue for the 3-word phrase AIR-PORT NOVEL, which tend to be cheap both in the monetary and literary sense. While clues that combine several target words into one phrase like this can be risky if the team doesn't consider the possibility or see the connected phrase from the board, they are also really fun to give.
In this case I'm tempted to look in this direction because there aren't any obvious alternative candidates, unless you view a LEMON as a cheap but junk car, and I believe that's exclusively a US English turn of phrase.
Please feel welcome to submit your own guesses, and I look forward to seeing how these rounds go!
I like that I barely have to look at the board to generate it, so I have no memory of what color the words are unless I go back and look it up. Usually I just follow along and try to guess what they're getting at then look it up, but here maybe I'll try to keep myself "unspoiled" and guess with you all.
With that in mind...
NOVEL and GAS jump out at me right away. Dime-store novel is a cheap, trashy novel, and that's the first association that my mind jumped to. Gas as in the world runs on cheap fuel.
After that it gets more difficult. I'm really lost on a 3rd
NOVEL is the first word I saw. I even thought of the same expression: dime-store novel.
GAS also registered, but felt 'wrong'. Like guessing COLD when the clue is Heat.
LEMON works well. Like NOVEL, it suggests 'low quality' and not just 'inexpensive'.
I don't like AIR. It's free, not cheap, so I don't see it as linked.
I would guess NOVEL then LEMON, and be persuaded by the team for PIN third.
(I've never heard of pin money. I wonder if that's generational or geographic?)

NOVEL for the 3rd guess/+1?
AIR is GREY
Red is up!
Pokemon 3
Ah, so much for my AIR-PORT NOVEL hypothesis! I still like NOVEL, and LEMON seems plausible as well, but we'll see what JR4 clues next.
This clue from supeprdeath seems a bit more straightforward though, at least for anyone familiar with the franchise/games.
GHOST and GROUND are both Pokemon types. I'd be shocked if these weren't among the intended candidates.
The third word could be MOON (numerous references, including Mt. Moon and Moon Stones from gen 1, and Pokemon Sun & Moon are some of the recent game releases), SNOW (close to Ice, another Pokemon type), ROSE (ditto, but for Grass type), or MOLE (several Pokemon resemble them). Of these I slightly prefer MOON.
...There's no way no one on Red team has played Pokemon, right?
Yeah, it's Novel and Lemon. As I always say, reverse-engineer the clue. Those are words that would inspire you to think of Cheap. Pin also does given "pin money". Air doesn't do that.
Kevlar stops people from shooting a HOLE in your ORGANs. Alternatively, you put a SQUARE of it covering your ORGANs. There are also connections to infantry/military words like DRILL, PARACHUTE, and HELICOPTER, but I'd probably guess in the order:
Dang, I'm really not on the same page as JR4. My first guess on cheap was going to be AIR and I don't have good second guesses, and for Kevlar I only see Parachute and maybe Trunk and Hole?
I do think Krill is wrong about parachutes, Kevlar is noted for being a fiber of exceptional strength, it ought to do fine as a parachute material. You might want to spin it thinner than the fibers used for armored vests in that application, but it should work for the same reason that silk and nylon work for parachutes - good strength to weight ratio yet still flexible. I guess there might be a cost question, but I'd think parachutes are an application where you want to spend for quality
Krill Wrote:I keep on thinking of PTFE but that has to be wrong
Yep, Teflon (PTFE) is not Kevlar. Both are polymers invented or at least commercialized by DuPont, but PTFE is designed for being non-stick and generally unreactive, it's fairly weak. Can break Teflon tape with your hands, I wouldn't try that with Kevlar.
PARACHUTE - haven't I heard of parachutes being made with Kevlar before? Honestly I don't know, but the association came up. Or at least that they're both military, and considering the other options I think that's good enough
HELICOPTER - again, more military associations
HOLE - Kevlar is supposed to stop holes from happening
The two that jump out at me are:
PARACHUTE-Parachutes can be made out of Kevlar, it is a good fabric that doesn't really degrade if stored for a long time. Plus, Kelvar paracord is really strong.
HELICOPTER-Military pilot's helmets are made out of Kevlar, but also part of me thinks that maybe they use it on the blades, or other components, but not sure if that is true.
