I'm slowly changing my mind about settling that crappy island right now. The glib will pop borders in 20 turns, less if we run some artists and with the border pop I'm forcing up north, access to the long island is faster anyway. And settling that island is critical.
Still want that crappy island settled, but that can wait for some time.

btw - Krill founded 4 cities to start the turn. FOUR!! You wonder if he planned that for a reason, or if it just sort of worked that way, timing wise.
oh - about the notes - changed most of them to lighthouses. The one I didn't was the city with the whale, cause it has plenty of food and the granary was almost done, anyway.
Good thoughts!!

I picked up the settler for crappy island and he's going to the new island, himself. We got the Great Library ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) I changed 2 of the specialists to artists, on the assumption that we'll use the 3rd Gp for a GA, so it's not important what type it is and also to pop borders asap, to get the faster crossing.
I still have a bunch of city screenies - I'll try to get those up tonight. There's a lot of cities, is all

Ran into barb warrior on the long island, so I moved the scout back. I do have a galley coming up with an archer and vulture, so they will take care of the barb.
Dow'ed pindicator and killed his trapped galley with the trireme - actually, I made a mistake - I thought the galley was in range to clean up, but it wasn't a a big deal. It was a big pain in the ass, though overall, it was probably a good thing for us. GKC clearly was going to settle the long island before pindi killed his city.
Someone got an engineer, so I presume there will be a rushed wonder soon:
I'll drop off the settler on the copper island next turn, along with a vulture, and then go back for the worker.
We could, perhaps, settle on the copper and expand to steal the seafood from GKC city. I don't want to do that, mind you - this settlement will probably upset him and there's no real reason to waste the copper - but we could do it.
2 turns to alphabet and the merchant for currency.
Gonna ask DS for OB - I dunno if I'll ask GKC or not. I think we should wait till that island has several of our cities on it, at least.

Pindicator offered cease fire, so I took that. No idea where he is, so no reason not to.

Picked up alphabet and asked DarkSavant for open borders.
Founded Nina on the copper island.

question:
This is Zimbir:
It has culture of 100. It should have popped borders across the water, but it did not. Why? It did take a border N-N-NE, which isn't even possible to be worked. It took the 3 tiles to the south. I don't understand why it hasn't taken the three ocean tiles to the east. Am I missing something in mechanics?

Culture will only extend 2 tiles out from a coastal city iirc, of course if it can reach another coastal tile outside of that 2 tiles, it will pop up there as well.

Shoot. Well, I should stop running artists in the cap, then.
That sucks - I wanted to pop those borders so I could cross there. Those tiles are workable from the other side, but need a lot of culture to be worked.
Sorry, Adler. I wasted a bunch of turns popping a border uselessly : ![frown frown](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif) Also, guess i need crappy filler city after all.

A slight refinement: I think the rule is you can only get culture to tiles that could be within the BFC of a city on the same landmass as the city generating the culture. The nuance will almost never matter compared to Holly's phrasing, though.

And just to super-refine the refinement, "could be within the BFC of a city on the same landmass" for this purpose means "within the second ring (BFC) of any land tile on the same landmass" regardless of whether a city is present there or could be present there: E.g. the "BFC" of a peak tile on the same landmass can still receive culture from cities on the same landmass as the peak.
