I've been lurking along at home for this but since I'm still newbie-ish at this I figured I'd ask here. Given that the blue team was given the clue Kevlar 3 and has made 4 (successful) guesses doesn't that mean that red is up?

Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England Rhymin' Simon: PBEM 20 - Indonesia (Team w/ China)
Yes, that is correct. If a spymaster wants to give unlimited clues they need to give 0 or unlimited as the number. Otherwise the team only gets the number plus 1 guesses

Lemon oil is produced by mechanically piercing/shredding and pressing the peel of the fruit. It's used in pretty much anything that's lemon flavored or lemon-scented and fractions of the oil are used in cleaning products (such as Pledge branded furniture cleaners). It can also be produced by macerating whole fruit and then performing a steam distillation. This results in an oil that looks & smells a bit differently than the expressed material. Oils of most citrus fruit are produced in this manner for the flavor & fragrance industry, with orange oils & their products also seeing wide industrial use as such as cleaners (Orange Glo) and paint strippers (Citristrip). You can "sample" lemon oil (indeed, any citrus oil) yourself by abrading the peel with a fingernail or taking a section of peel and twisting it to break the oil sacs.

I think SD's intent here was to give a 1-clue that unambiguously pointed to MOLE, which wasn't previously a candidate, and then made the clue unlimited to give them the 2 additional guesses needed to close the game. I think the red team is on the right track here, but as always it can be a tricky thing. Losing tempo from the SNOW-"Man" turn hurt them a lot.
Spyfall is a thing, but you wouldn't need to clue Fall with an oblique reference like that. Plummet would do fine as a clue.
Another argument against HOLE here is that if SD wasn't considering the compound word link to SNOW-Man, it wouldn't make sense for him to have been aiming at Man-HOLE instead.

Well, good thing no one saw that association anyway, since it wasn't intended. But it would have been a good clue for linking MOLE and FALL while avoiding HOLE, I believe. Even something like PRECIPITATE (hinting at the chemistry meaning of MOLE) would have been far more likely to steer the team towards HOLE than MOLE I think. |
