To me, it would be a rather big difference. Also, what my empire looks like. For this game? Rusten/OH had some god-tier land and shit out alot of cities and have been probably getting ready to blow thru someone very soon. Everyone else is a non-factor. No one else will win this game based on how far ahead those two are. UNLESS: someone takes one for the team and declares on them and stops their runaway status.
In this game, when i attacked DS i tried to do what was suggested to me once: Try and give your enemy an out, dont go total-war mode for something that could be a limited conflict. I cant put myself in this situation because one of those cities was just an awful plant, and the other felt like he knew it wouldnt create a safe border. Knowing that i just typed that, Yes... i agree my city i planted minimum distance to his was a bit...aggressive however, i couldnt just let him settle up that coast and make him feel like i was giving him that little outlet where the stone was. That would be greedy as fuck for him to do, but i dont trust Mali-players.

Step 2: Be the one to research Alphabet
Step 3: Let your neighbor get ahead of you on city count, plus let him know he can have a couple of your cities whenever he really wants them
Step 4: Somehow know you have a safe border now which doesn't need defended???
Step 5: Attack Rusten, who magically has 30 cities. So first, how could DS know you meant what you said and not what I wrote there? I changed each piece to be more negative, but not by a lot.
Second, I understand how this would help you win...how would it help DS have a chance to win? If i recall correctly, he had his city less than 10t ( like 4-5t? ) planted before i planted my minimum distance border city. So, while the borders WOULD easily touch.. i dont consider that quite as aggressive as planting next to expanded borders and blocking a fish tile. ( he clearly saw the fish when he was moving his scout around ) His other city? Perfectly "fine" as it shared corn, BUT it left me with no real good city on my side of that silk/river area and would have been a FAR worse border than we have now.
I also researched alphabet recently.. :P
Cant easily tell who is ahead in city count unless you write down EVERYONE's city plants from PBSPY which is just stupid for this game. Dont know why we decided to not have cities shown on the screen. Just more things that make being a micro master like Rusten/OH even better.
Safe border due to OB's plus sentry units. The world needs one of us to declare and pick on Rusten. I vote DS to do it. /shrug.
Anytime you attack someone, you lower their chances of winning. I... dont know how to answer this. If i had attacked DS far earlier by just whipping mass swords/axes and sending them south, neither of us would have even a slim chance of winning. DS should be able to expand elsewhere... i mean, i can? I expanded in the only direction land-wise that i could thanks to my narrow passage heading south. From what ive scouted of DS so far it looks like his area fattens up a bit? Giving the impression of pb42(?) with OH/Krill's situation imo. I guess im just not seeing where he should have no chance of winning now and will just vendetta himself into me. We both will move to 0%/food tier if thats the case. AND i have far better promotions and frankly, a better economy currently. I have a GMerchant in my pocket that i can pop for either Buro and allllllllmost maces, or hold for guilds.
If DS continues the war ill be forced to abort building settlers and just counter his war plans with massive catapult production. Im sure he is headed straight for OPcrossbows as they counter agg/cha america decently. Ill just have to build HA's/cats like the old days till i get to knights? Idk how i feel about that. Im wanting to give DS an out. Those cities werent core cities, ive stopped my aggression... havent been building military... what does it take to get him to realize a limited war? Ill just blame my asbergers on not understanding this shit. EZOUT... .... sigh
TURN REPORT:
GNP looks rather nice finally.
I have 3 cities with any kind of production capability outside of whipping.
Im settling the cities around my capital as barb galleys have been winning every offensive battle vs my coastal defending galleys this game.
For fun, after the game id like to know where you would settle this area as either party. ![alright alright](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/alright.gif) Bart Trinke would be settled by one of us, basically no matter what imo.

Ill just blame my asbergers on not understanding this shit Well, the other problem is that it's not just communicating that you want a limited war - it's also about convincing him that he should want it. It's really hard to do that in general in civ, particularly in a no-diplo game.
1. If your opponent still thinks they have a chance to win, but they had a set back, they are likely looking for longshot profitable things. One possible longshot is to win a war. The fact you want out of the war might mean you're weaker than you look - even if it's a long shot there's a chance.
2. If your opponent doesn't think they have a chance to win, they want a smaller goal. One common goal is 'make a reputation as not worth invading', also phrased as 'get revenge'.
So to get a limited war, you have to be obviously stronger than your opponent, and hurt them just enough to help you but not enough to take away their hope to win. But if you're that much stronger than them, it usually makes more sense to go for complete conquest, which makes it hard to convince that this is an exception where you're asking for a permanent peace rather than a short break to get reinforcements in place.
It's really threading a needle, and not very many people manage to pull it off at all. It's a little easier if there are special circumstances, like wars across an ocean - because it's possible to be obviously ahead in your navy without the ability to keep invading past the sea. Which means you can convince them 'there's no way you get that island back, but I won't be back in 10 turns because taking on your mainland is way harder'. Even there, though, it doesn't always work.

Yeah... figured he was in a better spot to not make this another "classic superdeath" move. Sigh. Well i 1t'd constructiion, and 1t'd HBR the turn after. He will no doubt go for crossbows/cats, so smashing the stack with cats and HA's will be my best play. Many painful whips will be made and im sure Rusten or Commodore will swoop in and take everything ive worked hard for.
My only regret is not knowing how MASSIVE this map was going to be. I would have made a better pick selection imo.
had to do a painful whip this turn to hopefully get rid of a barb galley ( 3 move barb galley... ) if i lose yet another trireme vs barb galley im going to tilt.

Making more painful whips to get units to the front before DS decides to start attacking back. 2metra cant take any of my ciites without Borsche counter attacking i think, but i filled my island city that he has to pass with 2 CG archers and a promoted axe.
I cant afford to whip every city for dumbshit like this for long.

Demos are garbage.
![[Image: lotr3gn.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/lotr3gn.jpg)
Having to whip because only 3 cities have production is garbage.

THIS TILE BEING COAST IS GARBAGE!
So anyway, any questions?

So begins the whips.
Another god damn barb galley appeared where my workboat is heading. SO... i have to escort it with a trireme. Id love to be building settlers and crossbows at this point. But, when you try new things ( not total war ) you can sometimes get burned.
WE ARE A WAR LIKE PEOPLE.
Something to keep in mind, hit me with a military tech advantage. You wont beat me in any kind of timely matter with anything less. Gamespy taught me well.

Todays meme brought to you by, Dark Savant. Winner of the "I got to crossbows before you, heres my stack. Guess we both die to Rusten! Hahaha" Almost every city is going to be whipped for archer/HA/catapults ect next turn.
Why?:
![[Image: F12L1zo.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/F12L1zo.jpg)
Im going to lose a city. If he goes for Bart, he might keep it... then i can retake it. If he goes for the other city he will likely raze it, but i can catch him afterwords. Amazing how quickly my amount of fun for a pitboss can go down the tubes.
![[Image: x9Zrj3i.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/x9Zrj3i.jpg)
Rusten is in Merc, Pacifism, and Serfdom. Is the game not called already? lol
![[Image: z2SO2Fr.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/z2SO2Fr.jpg)
Wish i had taken him a bit more seriously, but figured he might have some sense and not just want to throw units at each other till the end of time. Maybe next time DS...

He has sense enough not to trust you after your invasion. Any forever wars on your continent, you brought on yourself. Probably an existential war was inevitable, but if you didn't want it when you got it, you should have been more aware of the consequences of doing someone a small injury.
