[SPOILERS] [PB46] TBW

Elkad asked me to stop trading with OH, which I turned down. OH traded me the stone to finish Moai, plus we've got a couple luxury trades and open borders, while Elkad settled directly in my face and stuffed the city full of CG3 archers. I think it makes more sense for me to side with the guy who has a higher score and has helped me out.

Looking at the spoiler data, I'm not surprised to find out I'm right at the bottom of the pack on both number of cities and units. I've been stuck at the bottom on crop yield and hammers all game long so that logically follows.

Krill offered me horses and iron to stop trading with OH, which I'm interpreting as "I would like you to attack OH". I'm not strictly opposed to the idea now that I have Moai finished but I don't know what I'd really be getting out of starting a fight with somebody who is so far ahead of me they revolted into Vassalage on whichever turn 200 BC was (it's now T134, 475 AD, and I'm 3 turns from Feudalism). I think it's still a better idea to stick with the guy that's got a higher score. I have to say that I don't think I like this system of interpreting hieroglyphics through resource trades over just messaging someone and saying "hey, let's team up on OH".

Turns out that I was supposed to interpret the horse+iron for OH trade as "OH is going to attack you with knights imminently". There's absolutely nothing I can do to even slow him down, since I'm still 3 turns from even starting to build longbows. I whipped the spear so it'll at least slow him down a little but there's no stopping spears and trebuchets when I don't have longbows, catapults, and haven't even built a horse archer yet.

lol

the resource trade system does seem a little fraught

Miraculously, I almost held Neapolis thanks to an axe and a spear killing off two of OH's knights. Krill is trading me iron so I can theoretically build more praetorians to try to retake the city, and I'm finishing Feudalism this turn and overflowing some whips into archers so I probably won't lose more than one or two more cities, depending on what OH's next moves are. I've also got my Moai city working on triremes to try to wrest some control of the sea lanes and cut off his reinforcements, though I doubt I'll have a lot of luck there with trireme vs trireme battles, especially after burning up a lot of my luck on winning two <30% battles.

At least I outlasted beardbeard. Obviously I wanted to win the whole game but that's clearly not happening at this point, I'll take second place out of the badger boys.

For some reason OH hesitated to conquer Cumae last turn when he could have rolled over it with his knights. Instead, he brought in more knights to add to the stack this turn. I've whipped Cumae totally into the ground and Krill is sending up longbows too, so I think I'm going to be the front lines on a Krill/OH siege for a while after he pushes through Cumae.

How's the defense going?

Extremely poorly. OH has roughly 15 knights + a trebuchet and a couple other units and just forked my capital and second city with them. I only finished Feudalism on T137 (we're on T140 now) so I haven't been able to consolidate any kind of longbow stack to stop him. I also don't really have any way to counterattack him since all I've got for an offensive army are a few praetorians and no way to slip them through to take back any of my cities. He can outbuild me on navy too so I can't cut off his reinforcements.
