It looks we have a general consensus for map so we can at least find someone to the ball rolling while we continue to lock down all other settings:

Pangaea mapscript doesn't generate many islands. I used BnS massive continent to achieve a similar directive for PB48 single landmass + islands, and after tweaking settings a few times I ended up rolling several decent candidates. But we can leave the specific script to mapmaker if they have something else in mind to achieve this.

IMO something like pb40 would be about perfect.

I've playing BTS for several years, but I am not an expert. I played sometimes with Astrologic in Civfanatis several years ago.

not wanting to hold up things, but didn't pb40 havevery little water? Are we just talking about number of cities per player or map layout? I had the impression that we were moving for something somewaht natural, withseveral landmasses?
