Starting Screen:
The fog and corner (i.e. non-BFC) tiles might possibly still change, but should actually be at least roughly accurate at this point. Let me know in the tech thread if the image isn't visible or something. I won't be reading players' threads until I'm finished with the rest of the map: I actually asked a non-civ playing, non-forum member friend randomize the starting images and am posting them without looking at them to be sure knowledge of different players won't influence the way I try to balance things. That's probably more extreme than necessary, but I'll also enjoy the surprise when the map is fully finished and I finally find out which screens are whose!
That start has got me pining for the fjords.
First thought is to grab a civ with mining+fishing --> wb first --> whip worker on size 2. But I'd need to look at the actual numbers to make sure the timings check out. Starting with one of the two techs (with hunting being the next choice) might work decently as well, to allow for some more civ options.
Relevant civs sorted by techs:
Mining/fishing: Carthage, England, Portuguese, Rome Hunting/mining: Ethiopia, Germany, Khmer, Russia fishing/hunting: Greece, Viking It's possible I missed someone. Please double check this. edit: If you have a civ you really want to play then say so, because that's more important than optimizing the starting turns. We don't *have to* start with the best/right techs.
You should create a sandbox and test the implications of hhaving both fishing/mining vs. only having one of them. If it doesn't make a big difference we can pick a civ late and start with a leader. If it makes a big difference we might want to secure our civ early.
Sadly most of the fishing/mining civs are seafaring and this is a map where everyone starts on the same landmass. Several of those I'd stay clear of. Below the civs with fishing/mining, hunting/fishing... and also hunting/mining Your micro looks good. Might try to do a sandbox tmr (though I have some sims to do on pb48 too but this one should be quick anyway). How about a protective leader? Coupled with one of imperialistic or agressive? Those are Toku (sushis for everyone) and Charlie (should be insanely good). |
