[SPOILERS] JR4 and RefSteel have a plan

All makes sense. Note RtR made major changes to nukes, so they don't resemble the base game's almost at all, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it makes sense to pursue them.

Look at it like this, will there be any other game in the near future, which goes so far that you can actually use nukes?

Let`s see what the next dozen turns bring. If Superdeath somehow manages to stop Mr. Cairo`s culture attempt we might get a legitimate chance of winning. I don`t think that razing a single of the three soon-to-be Legendary cities and signing peace will help Superdeath much as he`s a long way away from any victory condition. He actually needs to raze a number of Mr. Cairo`s cities.

So, the lurkers want even more blood and a nuclear armageddon - why am I not surprised!? I don`t have any experience with nukes and I`m still somewhat reluctant to use non-conventional weapons first. Which changes have been made to nukes in this mod?

TURN 345

Wow, Mr. Cairo offered us this deal: Isn`t that a bit desperate? We`re not at war, remember. He`s basically offering us 200 gold per turn just to stay away for a while and we can stab him any time we want.

Mr. Cairo can`t be far away from winning, though. He`s got at least two Artists and all of a sudden moved in a big part of his army into his capital.

If the game lasts for another 40 turns minimum we will eventually get a choice of which tech to pursue. Let`s see if we end up going for nukes after all. Heh, I guess that civ 4 warfare brings out the worst in every player at some point.

A lot. As I understand it, nukes now work like this:

Prereqs: Rocketry + Fission (techs) + Uranium (resource).
Note Manhatten Project is not required! As far as I can tell, the project continues to exist, and enables Bomb Shelters (which, I think ... do nothing in this mod?) but otherwise does nothing. I think it's never come up before....
Cost: 200h for a tac nuke, 450h for an ICBM.
Effect: Nukes do not cause the giant NUUUUUUUKE effect that they do in the base game. Instead, they are in effect just very powerful air attackers with +100% evade chance that can deal massive collateral. At least ... that's the way I understand it. 200h for a short-range (I think 4 tiles? I'd have to check...) one-time attacker is pretty steep, and 450h for an incredibly-long-range (up to 36 tiles, I believe) one-time SUPER ATTACKER is extremely steep, but in theory they should be really good at busting stacks. I have not tested any of this except for the prereqs.

Okay, so nukes have been completely rebuilt in this mod. If we are going to take advantage of that we need the game to last for an eternity. If we can get two Scientists we might be able to cut down a few turns on Fission (if that`s what they`ll bulb). I`m inclined to go for Fighters and slowly research Radio for Bombers first but that`s going to take a while too. Honestly, if we wanted Nukes we`d probably be better off by a beeline but that`s a bit too late now..

I think that Mr. Cairo was a bit worried about us having a commando unit or five in Hesperides, conveniently placed 10 tiles away from his capital. I`ll get to the turn in a few hours.

I'd imagine the best thing to do is just go into world builder and see how much damage these nukes do to stacks and then we'll probably be able to have a good idea of if they are worth the hammer investments.

TURN 346

Our Airships spotted a bunch of wounded Greek units in Sparta. It sure looks like some fighting found place. I wonder if Superdeath lost a chunk of ships here as I couldn`t find the main part of his navy on that sea..

On the other sea, Superdeath has bombarded down the defenses of VanillaIsis but he still hasn`t made an attempt to attack the city itself. Is he waiting for someone else to declare war first? Wetbandit has about 65 Tanks plus loads of other units just sitting on the border. The tension is getting high. At some point, someone has to do something to stop Mr Cairo`s culture attempt.
