FWIW, I think he's a doctor in the UK (I'm sure it's something medical, I think doctor) so I'm not surprised that he is suddenly busy. Don't assume he's gone forever quite yet.

Oh ok. Of course that changes a lot. I didn't know that. In this case I think it's just fair to wait.

Fwiw, I do think that the PB 43 mod is very well suited for multiplayer and doesn`t really need any major changes. So, yes, I`d probably push for that mod + toroidal wrap and balanced resources once more if I ever sign up for a game at RB again. For me the changes to naval warfare in PB 46 were a bit too much for instance.
@Charriu: You mentioned some time ago that you knew how to get rid of global warming. Could you make a mod similar to PB 43 without GW?

Sid Meier included a pollution mechanic in Civ 1 to send a pro-environmental message. Back in 1991, games did things like that rather than worrying about if every element was fun and useful strategically.
Civs 2-3 kept that. SMAC turned it into fungus pops. By Civ 3, players complained that playing pollution whack-a-mole wasn't fun, so it was changed to the more generic global warming of Civ 4, which also happened to enhance the message, that pollution has global effects and hurts everybody. Civ 5 got rid of that in trying to streamline the game overall.
BTW, this made me realize: Civ 1 to Civ 4 is now less time than Civ 4 to today. Civ 4 is now older relative to us than Civ 1 was when Civ 4 came out.

I think the main problem with Global Warming as implemented is that the player has no agency in it. My first civ game was actually Civ Call to Power. I remember that in that game you had a lot more control over it. You had graphs that showed the impact of pollution, you could anticipate when global warming events happened, those events hit high pollution players harder if I remember correctly and it the whole global warming thing was more integrated into the other systems with "climate pacts" in the diplomacy system and units interacting with climate change. I recently read that K-mod did some things around Global Warming. Maybe I will give that a try in the future.
I also wanted to add that not only can I build you a PB43 without Global Warming. I even can add BUG to it. All the balance changes are actually highly modular, for the most part. So as long as I have any version of RtR I can more or less generate it with the BUG addition, PBmod integration and DLL changes like global warming.

@Charriu: That is awesome. BUG plus getting rid of global warming would be welcome changes. And according to the poll at least two other players agree with me that the PB 43 mod is best. That`s something, right?
@T-hawk: Interesting. I do remember spending an unhealthy amount of time moving my Workers around to clean up pollution in the earlier days of Civilization. In single player it doesn`t really matter too much as long as you have the option of actually restoring the terrain.
In Civ 4 it should have been easy to let Global Warming be optional, just as with barbarians. I agree with Charriu that the main problem is that once you get hit by Global Warming the damage is done, there isn`t any way of getting back those beautiful floodplain towns. And you also have no control on when GW strikes.
