Cheers,

and I'm not that disappointed. The early game was fun and my plans were sound in relation to wonder prioritization and similar. It just turns out this map is too much for me, I'm sure my current situation could've been partly avoided if I had been more proactive. If there was ever a game to have a dedicated lurker from T1 this is it. Old Harry and Hitru being able to share the load is something I am jealous of. I feel my play has been uninspired since the late medieval/early renaissance and I'll put it down to fatigue. Not made the best strategic decisions. Honestly, right now I'm so thrilled at the prospect of it being over that I don't feel any disappointment at all.

On the bright side this means I'll finally have time to lurk you in PB48 and PB49, just give me a few of days to unwind first.

You should have PMed me one year ago mischief

Yeah, take a break. Well deserved rest!

I should be able to take care of the next few days... (huge blunders included lol)

So long, thanks for all the reports, and congratualtions on an impressive game, even if you didn't come out on top in the end. I was really impressed how long you and the others kept on with these huge empires, but you not feeling like it anymore is completely understandable. I hope you'll come back to a future pitboss after recovering from this one, as a big fan of your play and your reports.

edit: also,

Thanks for an enjoyable thread. I was impressed by how calm you stayed throughout the dogpile.

It's only a game after all, I never really rage. Besides, it's a lot easier to be calm about it considering a big part of me started caring much less about winning a while ago. It became so obvious that it's a lose/lose situation to enter the late game. I've probably said or hinted as much several times over the past 6 months. This is not the game I thought I signed up for. What has kept me going for a while now was that I like to stick to things I committed to out of fairness to others (and I'm a stubborn motherfucker). But we've now reached a point where I feel I can bow out for good. Declining interest probably helps explain why I pursued the laziest possible path to victory and was punished for it.

I'm not sure when's the last time I looked forward to playing my turn. Not saying I've been dreading it either, but if someone had offered to stop the game months ago without declaring a winner I wouldn't have objected. At least now the game can come to an official conclusion and OH can enjoy their win. I know it's little anticlimactic for the lurkers, but playing this map takes a toll on you.

Next time I sign up for a game and the player list reaches 12+, please remind me to drop out before it starts.

Or at least if the map isnt WORLD size? popcorn
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

GG Rusten. I kinda can't believe the hail-Mary attack worked, but defending against commandos and Commodores isn't much fun when you have 75 cities to think about.

Looking forward to reading your thread.

I thought he'd want revenge on OH for what happened earlier in the game, but it seems he instead wants him to win.

The way it looked to me on that turn, I had to pick somebody to side with (you both sent me offers that turn) and I could see OH was in a much better position to attack me if I didn't go along with him than you were. He had a huge navy, tons of experienced two movers that he could bring over to my continent without any chance of me interdicting him, and land borders with me. I didn't even know he had a commando pump running but that would also have been disastrous. Trust me, I would have loved to have kicked his ass for wiping me out as Rome but there wasn't any move I could make to really hurt him, the best I could come up with was to hope the two of you had a long war of attrition that would open up some kind of door for me.

GG Rusten. Really well played and we indeed were not completely sure the attack would work when we started planning for it but in the end it was (maybe barely) enough. At the same time we were pretty sure that attacking you was best path for us as we could not let you incorporate DS area into your empire.

And it definitely helps to have 2 players to think turns. I hope to see you again soon in a game, either as team member or as an opponent. smile

Regarding this game and our attack (I have not yet red through your thread so my apologies if you have answered these already):

I was really surprised you did not build more ironclads, those would have been pain in the ass.
Did you anticipate commando units at all?
