(spoilers) Trying something new

WE GOT IT. EOT we get our border pop. Archery set to complete in roughly 3T, Ruff has the copper mine complete and we will have ours complete in 6-7t depending on if we double up our workers. Im saving the 2nd pop in Minnesota to whip an archer because i have the feeling of axes coming our way. Sigh. images to come later.

Made some micro to be able to whip an archer the turn that Minnesota grows. It hurts, but what will hurt even more is if FT decides to raze our 3rd city with that warrior. God damnit. This is what im talking about with the whole " whenever i differ from my norm, something bites me in the ass "

PB41, Commodore rushes me when i play a non-aggressive combo ( izzy of carthage )

pb45, I get boxed in/shit land and rushed by Alex of Japan. ( long live the Horse archer counter attack! )

This game im attempting to look at wonders/religion AND use a non-optimal leader with a civ that ive always wanted to try in multiplayer. Ruff shows mega-holy-shit-lets-freak-out-in-tech-thread and FT could snipe our copper city if he moves/wants to. Fuck me.

Vodka shows that at best i have an 80% chance of the scout dying and losing the city if FT wants to push me. ( 1000 combats )

If he razes the city id love to just leave this civ to you GKC. smile

How far can Ruff be on that axe? And if fin decides to walk in, I'll take over the scraps of this sadness. Any way you can whip out an archer out of the capital?

Well if he was pre-working on a warrior and whips/chops it he could have it pretty soon at our doorstep hence the need for an archer.

A capital archer cant reach our copper city in time no matter what. Worker-archer out of the capital to go and reinforce Minnesota is probably what will happen till axes can be made.

This is why i cant have nice things frown

By my calculations ( unless he uses 2 workers to road.... shakehead  ) he can hit our warriors 1t before the archer completes. Him getting the  COVER event is a real fuck you to the face. Is Ruff carrying over pb47 stuff to here? Is the rest of his land such garbage that he doesn't want to out produce us long term?

A keen eye will notice that FT's warrior got hit by something and now has less strength than before, upping our scouts chances of winning the fight. However, any delay in getting copper hooked up for our own axes ( archers probably only have a 50% chance of winning a fight vs a c1Cover axe? Sigh. ) will suck the life out of me.

100 tries of c1cover axe vs archer in a city on a hill with 20% culture.

Anyone got a better combat calculator that just gives easier to read odds? http://zulan.net/civ/vodka/ Is great and all, but man does this just look like a whole bunch of gibberish to me.

I like using Cyneheard's Excel calculator for a quick 1-combat estimate. Input parameters go in the range B2:C9 and the outcome is in the range B18:C19. I've put in inputs for a barbarian Lion attacking a Scout in a flatland forest.

Gah, thats almost worse. Having to look up what every unit's strength/other mumbo is.. I cant even remember what the first strikes of a normal archer is off hand. banghead

Ill just figure that my archer is going to be in for some fun..

Those Vodka results look weird, but only because they repeat themselves a lot for a 1 unit v 1 unit battle like this. All it's really saying is that the attacker won 29 of its 100 battles. (I'm not sure if that takes any fortification bonus into account.) Everything else is just a restatement of the same thing, sometimes in terms of hammers lost (by multiplying the odds by the hammer cost of the unit that might be lost).

Hmm, the culture bonus will come in handy, though.

Could you pm me the password, if you dont mind? I'd like to think about the micro more hands on, kind of hard doing this in my head and my TI-84
