More Human Factions?

There are three Human cultures present in the game. The Barbarians. The Nomad. And then there are the White People (I mean technically race isn't being mentioned anywhere, because who cares for the hue of that Human skin in the world where you've got like Dwarves and Elves, right?! But let's not kid ourselves. Just look at the names of the High Men cities. They're English! And by the way, if we should be really politically correct, we should rename the High Men faction to High Men and Women. And considering the world we live in, I'm not even sure if I'm joking.) smile

So, below you will find my humble ideas for new Human factions which might add some flavour to the game:

1. The Black People: (Nubians, or whatever name could be pulled from Robert E. Howard's works, this is a Fantasy World after all) They could build War Elephants, or if the Elephants should seem too similar to War Mammoths wielded by the Trolls, how about War Rhinos, War Lions or War Hippos instead. smile

2. Easterlings (Asians): (They could build war machines like primitive rocket launcher artillery or even train arquebusiers/musketeers! This shouldn't be too much of a departure from the technology of the original game, which already features the Dwarven Steam Cannon)

I think the important question to ask when it comes to new races is not "What ideas can we come up with" but rather "What strategies and niches are unfilled by the current races but could be filled by a new race?" i.e. new races should be added in response to a gameplay need. I don't know that the first race would really do anything that existing races don't already do. The second race could be interesting, a race that has an emphasis on low-figure, armor piercing ranged units. Kind of like a blend of High Men and Nomads. That *could* have a place, although it'd be tricky to make them balanced without being a one-trick pony.

This is a fantasy game though. I prefer nonhuman races.
We need goblins, pixies, gnomes, etc. ...assuming there is a gameplay purpose they can fill.

A gun based race would work well as a Myrran race, filing the same purpose Nomads do on Arcanus but without the "no granary" downside. I could see Gnomes doing that. They'd have less hp and resistance than dwarves, no restriction on magic buildings, but mostly ranged units.

...new races is the very last step in development though. It's more viable as an expansion after the initial release as it needs a lot of work. (Not necessarily in coding but very much in making the unit graphics.)

Goblins can be fast breeding, cheap maintenance, good at economic ventures and master poisoners.

Pixies can fly and act as a weaker Draconian but more fertile race on Arcanus.

Gnomes would not be a good fit for a Myrran race. Perhaps Ratmen can fill that niche of a high tech low resistance race that of course hates dwarves. Gnomes would be more at home at Arcanus.

Vampires as a race that has life steal and has the undead trait would be interesting.

Ents (treemen) would have the health and strength of giants but produced via cities.

Mind Flayers would have the best magic structures, terrible racial unrest, lots of units with sorcery spells, a weak economy and can swim. (A dark mirror of lizardmen)

Darlock (Nazghul) race would have lots of invisible units, cloak of fear, etc.
