Not that I'm aware of, I meant the RB one some people were working on.

Turn 11

Open the save to find the barb scout next to my eastern warrior so I attack him. Over in the west, a barb camp showed up where I want my second city. I move my western warrior towards it to take it out before my settler finishes...

In world news, Kaiser now has a civic and tech completed, CMF has a civic, and suboptimal has a tech. I am still in the lead thanks to my 7 era points. Ichabod has 3 population but no techs or civics complete.

I think I have decided to move eastern warrior south and circle him along my southern fog. See if I can find any unmet city states in that direction. No use trying to chase the scout, don't think I can catch him.

Code of Laws finishes next turn.

At least neither Barb scout has seen your capital!

I don't think I have to worry about those 2 scouts. I expect the eastern scout to retreat since I attacked it and the western scout will probably head west and run into La Venta. Also, I am pretty sure I can take care of the camp quickly since it is located on flat ground. My only real concern would be a flood that kills my warrior.  If one does become alert, I can always kick out a slinger after the settler.

Strategy Update

Basic strategy is get a 2nd settler out, then build an army and some infrastructure while waiting to get some Cothons built and the Ancestral Hall. Once the AH is built, spam settlers until "my" area is full.

How do I do that?

Pantheon
I am pretty sure I am going to take Fertile Rites as a pantheon. I don't see much use of either of the cultural pantheons. One sheep and probably one horse somewhere near doesn't scream a need for the +1Icon_Culture on pastures and I don't see an plantation tiles for the +1Icon_Culture. No camps and no telling how many strategic resources around for those pantheons. +1Icon_Production to fishing boats could be useful but I won't be working those tiles until my cities grow larger. I plan on focusing on my gold economy instead of the faith economy, so no need for the holy site buffs. Not a lot of breathtaking tiles and no real way to improve appeal until later in the game. An any other pantheons just aren't that great.

Overall, I think a builder now and +10% growth for all my cities is best. I will be pushing out a bunch of settlers once I get a Cothon and Ancestral Hall down and it would be nice to speed their growth.

Tech
Tech-wise, since I am going for the builder pantheon, he will need something to do. I am researching Animal Husbandry (T16) for the pasture on the sheep, then he can farm the wheat, and then he will need to hang around a few turns so he can quarry the stone. So, the next tech will be mining (T24) then go Sailing->Astrology->Celestial Navigation. After those are complete, pick up Archery, Wheel, Pottery, Bronze Working before heading to Apprenticeship to unlock Industrial Zones. Probably will need Engineering for some Aqueducts.

Civics
Civic-wise, Code of Laws finishes next turn, then I will research Foreign Trade for the +100%Icon_Production for boats. After FT, I am thinking Mysticism for the envoy into Bologna and +2Icon_Science. I could wait to build the Government plaza but think that will take too long. I am also considering delaying PP until the era change to save the era points. I should have no trouble with a golden age. I will get 2 points for first pantheon, 3 points for the barb camp, 4 points for the unique boat, 4 points for Cothon. Plenty for a golden age.

Anyways, after Foreign Trade, go Mysticism->Craftsmanship->Early Empire->State Workforce->Military Tradition-> Political Philosophy. after PP head towards Military Training to get the +30%Icon_Production to Harbors and Encampments.

Government and Governors
First government will be Oligarchy, so I can chop out the Ancestral Hall and get the legacy card, then probably switch to Autocracy so I can build ships and units while running the maintenance card.

As for Governors, I was thinking Magnus 1st to get him place but I am not going to chop or build settlers for a while. First 2 titles will go into Pingala (take the science promotion) then the title from the Government Plaza will go into Magnus and take the promotion to not lose a population with a settler when the AH is complete.

Pingala will go into the 2nd city, which should have a high population with all those wheat tiles and possible flood yield increases. He will probably live there the whole game. I am even thinking about the Hanging Gardens or Great Bath to help increasing housing. Magnus will go to capital and not leave until I fill the map with cities. With a Cothon, the HS, and Settler card, I will have +150% to settlers and should be able 5 turn them and 1-turn chop a few for fast expansion.  So once I start building settlers, I should be able to get 4 or 5 out in 10-12 turns plus another one from my second city. Add in La Venta and I should be at 10 cities before T80. Depending how much room I have, I might be able to continue pushing settlers out until the land around me is full.

I will add more on the next turn report and cover city development, scouting paths, and how I plan on keeping relevant in science without any early Campuses.

Turn 12
Turn came right as I was posted the strategy update. Open the save to...

Slot Discipline and Urban Planning. Also, got rid of the jade tile at capital and now working the plains hill forest. Settler due in 5 turns. Barb scout in the east disappeared, so he did not see my capital. He will probably get taken care of by Bologna. Eastern warrior moves south. In the west, barb spearman from camp decided to come say hello to my warrior so I say hello back...

I expect spearman to retreat and will move up to kill the camp. I did pin a few more possible city locations. The southeast one has a nice +4Icon_Science campus and grabs cocoa for a 5th luxury. Not sure about the northeastern one, it has a spot for a Cothon on one of those freshwater lakes but it is possible that there is desert east of the location. I will have to scout it out to make final decision.

Internationally, Ichabod has finished a tech and CMF has met a religious city state. He is leading on the religious rankings, which means he has met a religious city state while running God King or working a faith tile. Better money is on God King, since I would drop a faith tile unless it is the best available option to work. Anyways, I didn't get a shot of the rankings last turn but I was still leading on T10, so even if he keeps God King in, I will have my pantheon on T16 and he should get his on T17 or T18. Even if we both finish it on T16, I play first, so I win the race.

Strategy Update continued

Scouting
I need to push the fog out so I can find nice spots for the settlers I am going to build. The eastern warrior is going to push south towards the cocoa and then swing west to defog south of me and find some 3rd ring city spots and see if there are any city states or players down there. Eastern warrior will take care of the barb camp, hang around until settler gets close, then make his way to the lake in the southwest. He will push the west and north to see what is around the river in the west and make his way north and circle back towards La Venta for an attack once they build their Holy Site. I think in total, 5 warriors will be needed to be able capture the city quickly.

Once 2nd city is settled and I finish Sailing, it will build a boat. I am thinking sending the boat east to follow the coast until he hits ice or some other blockade. Then he will turnaround and head west.

City Builds
Settler will finish on T17 then I will start a monument unless the barb scout comes back and then it will be a slinger. Regardless, my next builds will be monument and slinger. Then a trader to send to the 2nd city. After that, I will need a few builders and a bunch of units (3-5 warriors and 2-3 slingers) while I wait to build a Cothon and Government Plaza. I will chop out the Ancestral Hall and then go full-on settler production. There are 4 forested tiles and I will chop one for the AH. I will keep the river plains forested tile for a lumbermill, but the other 2 will be for settlers. Each chop should 1-turn them. I will wait until I can make sure that the settler won't finish with the chop and not lose any production overflow.

At the 2nd city, it will start a monument until Sailing is complete and start a boat and finish the monument afterwards. I will buy the stone tile if the capital has not grab it yet for a 2/2 tile to work. It will then kick out some units while waiting for a Cothon. A builder here to mine a plains hill and a few farms will help it grow. Once I start building the AH at the capital, the 2nd city will push out a cheap settler before I shift all settler duty to the capital. That way, I can have a settler ready to found a new city while the capital finished the AH. Overall plan for this city will be to grow, build ships, and civilian units (traders and builders) while capital is on settler duty.

Once I start settling cities, I will take the best production city and make a military pump to make sure I can defend all my lands. Same with science...I need to find some nice science spots to boost my science rate because I am going to focus more on my economy and expansion first and then science later.

I think with the Golden Age, I will take Free Inquiry for extra science to boosts and to my Cothons. That should help me keep up in science before I start building Campuses and Libraries. This will also mean I need to settle coastal locations or cities near lakes first and have a Cothon as the first build. Free Inquiry will be worth 7Icon_Science when I start Golden Age and if I can get Cothons next to the city center, each additional one will be worth 2 Icon_Science. If I can get to the +100% adjacency card, I can double it. Will this be enough...IDK, but every little bit helps.

So, there are my thoughts on the next 50 or so turns. What do you think? Am I missing anything?

Turn 13
Open the save to see barb spearman has indeed retreated. Western warrior moves next to the camp. Eastern warrior move south...

Internationally, I am the only one who has not completed a tech. Suboptimal is now at 3 pop and he and Ichabod have not completed a civic. I am last in both science (no techs) and culture (lowest rate). Interestingly, Kaiser is now leading culture, which means he has meet a cultural city state to at least match CMF's culture.

Lucky start for Kaiser, having both a science and cultural city states close by. I will have to be careful if he is the one to my east, especially be on the look out for an early rush. Luckily, the terrain is pretty rough going east and a few archers should be able to hold the line.  The 2 city pins to the east are looking good, they can provide protection for my core, especially if I place an Encampment on the flat desert tile east of the lone desert hill. I could cut off an invasion path to a single tile lanes where archers and walls can pick off units.

Edit: Or maybe the Encampment on the desert hill between the 3 mountains.
Edit2: I was just looking over my screenshots again and noticed the forested plains hill south east of the cocoa (on the edge of the screenshot) is red in settler vision and outside the range of Bologna. I wonder if that would be the cultural city state Kaiser found? It is a little close to be another player.

Interesting phase of the game!

I get why you are going for Fertility Rites but man the early Settler is hard to give up!  I know you will pump them out in a little while but I'd be tempted still to take the free one.

I assume you are not expecting many lightly defended coastal sites so a Bireme rush is not on the cards?  Seems like rushing is not your style perhaps, also I guess less effective against other humans!

Definitely need to check out that red tile, priceless information.

This is a possibility but still need to know if I am blocked in by ice. I would hate to build a bunch of ships only to find they can't go anywhere.
