What about the advanced start mode in game the actual game? You get a certain amount of points that you can allocate at the beginning of the game according to how you values things ... chose a worker, city, extra starting tech, pop borders, etc. Advanced start works in hot seat, not sure how it works in Pitboss but even if it doesn't, choices could be given to the mapmaker based on starting screenshot. Given a tiny map may need to restrict where cities can be places (e.g. within 3 tiles of start tile).

(If RtR, strongly prefer PB49 version over 48/50 and earlier)
What's the difference between the PB49 version versus PB50? Any chance the PB49 version doesn't have the absurd crossbow change? I'm having trouble finding the changelog.
Superdeath, looks like there's enough to start here:
-Six players
-PB49-ish number of tiles per player

Ill start working on a rough map here soon. Monday is going to be a hell of a day for mail.. so possibly tuesday after work i can actually get into it.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."
-Old Harry. PB48.

I don't care about the mod either. I guess I have a slight preference for CTH if pushed since it will be fresher for me.

Charriu - you can go ahead and lock in CTH for this game. That seems to be the strong preference.
Any thoughts on picking methods? With a new mod, I wonder if bringing back the method where we are rolled 4-6 random leader/civ choices, and we select one from them. Standard snake pick would be fine with me too, though. I'd also be open to something more exotic with traits/civs impacting our advance start point budget, although I don't actually know enough about advanced start to know if that's even possible.

I really enjoyed this in early RtR, there are six players so it's easy to randomly give each of us five civs and five leaders and just shake that boggle.

Thanks, you will find a new version 1.3.1 with all fixes here: Close to Home 1.3.1
Note that this only includes bugfixes - mostly for the BUG scoreboard. Same gameplay as 1.3

Can we do a quick and dirty test pitboss with Advanced Start on and see what happens? That could have quite a big impact on what we end up deciding. One of the things you can choose to buy with Advanced Start is visibility of fogged tiles, and we would have to restrict things like that if we do the advanced start portion based off a sandbox as opposed to the real thing in-game.
