Trying to do an Advanced Start without actually using the mechanic built into the game will probably end up being more trouble than its worth.
To be clear, this is exactly what I (and I think Cornflakes too?) am proposing as our backup plan.
OK, I wasn't sure. It sounded as though we would get a screenshot in our threads and have to say what we wanted to "buy" there, and have that added in, without ever actually using the bame mechanic.

It's fine, SD. I've been taking the time trying to figure out this advanced start thing

We’re asking for a map no bigger than PB49 ... and at this point I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that I started with 4th ring borders touching one neighbor and 5th ring touching another. So expanding beyond 4th ring T0 isn’t really practical anyway

I found a solution ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif)
You can test the advanced start in this test game (pb.zulan.net:2057) Attention, the pb server runs 'PB Mod_v9' not Close to Home.
(The test game is running with the PB Mod because I had currently a problem by setup it with close to home.)

So we get our starting settler and warrior, but still get to do the Advanced Start thing. I guess we can just delete those units.
I'm assuming that the AI was in charge of some of the civs in the test game, which is why some started with a city founded and 2 archers?
Edit: just like in SP, you cannot leave the Advanced Start process and come back to it. I logged in as Washington, the only leader who apparently hadn't already used its starting settler. I didn't do anything, and logged out. At which point the AI used up all the Advancerd Start points itself, so now when I log in as Washington the Advanced Start is already finished. So once you log in and begin the Advanced Start, you have to finish it. Otherwise the AI will do it for you.
edit2: Funnily enough, when I did the same thing with Saladin, who had already used its starting settler to found a city, instead of the AI using the Advanced Start points to do stuff, it just finished it, so now Saladin has 500 gold instead of improvements and stuff. Also, that city has 10 overflow hammers? Even though it's turn 0...

Thanks for the feedback.
If I comment 'AI_doAdvancedStart(true);' out the points should not be consumed at logoff/by AI.
(This needs a new DLL.)

I will provide a new mod version with that. What exactly was your solution to fix Advanced start and do I need to integrate it?

Logged into the Pericles civ (no password), and like Cairo mentioned, it already started with a city settled and units moved, but I still got the advanced start setup prompt after this. Looks like these civs are starting with the usual AI units rather than nothing, as you're supposed to.

@Charriu:
I've used CyPlayer.setAdvancedStartPoints(int) in the PBServer Python code. It is more a workaround as a solid solution.
It also exists CyGame.getNumAdvancedStartPoints and maybe we could also add some Code in the DLL to get the same effect.

I just forgot to set most players from AI to Human.
