Was the test game was started with a custom map, where the players had been moved to different starting locations? For any of the maps I've made I never adjusted the start position locations in the text editor, and one concern I have if players are moved is that the game may revert to their original start positions for advanced start rather than the updated/intended start positions.

Pitboss 53 Tech Thread

As long as the starting locations are equally spaced out, I don't think they'll need to be changed. The Advanced Start mechanic kind of removes the need to balance the starts.
It occurs to me that I have not been following PB49 - how big is that map? It sounds crowded. I don't have a problem with that, I'm just curious.

So, some questions about how this will work:
1) Map gets finalized, everyone gets their screenie 2) Everyone picks leader/civ from the possibilities sent to them and then we reveal them all at once 3) Game gets started, everyone logs in, claims their start, spends advanced start points and we reload 5 times because no one gets it right the first time and I screw it up twice. Is there an advantage to claiming late, because you can see what others are doing? Should we put in our threads what we are claiming before anyone does anything?

In fact, I would consider it kinda pointless to have pre-designed starting locations as well as Advanced Start. edit: also, the map is still hand-made, so it'll be balanced. I was just replying to Cornflakes talking about the possible need to move starting locations and how that could impact the advanced start. I just don't think we need to have perfectly balanced BFCs with a plains hill start and equivalent food. Im working on it now that im off work... throw me to the wolves if you guys dont receive screenshots in thread by midnight.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."
