[Spoilers] Woden takes on the World (PBEM18)

Turn 46
Barb warrior attacked my slinger on his turn but he was red-lined enough so my slinger could take him out and get the boost for Archery. I swap Archery in to work a turn on it before I will swap to something else next turn. Southeast warrior moves net to barb camp and finds a partially injured spearman and 2 Bologna warriors. He should be red-lined if both attack next turn, allowing me to steal that barb gold. Warrior by Brazil moves into some jungle but wasn't able to defog anymore. Here is the turn at the end of movement...

Internationally, Ichabod started generating Great Prophet points, so district he finished last turn was a Holy Site. He also finished a tech and civic this turn. Kaiser has founded his 3rd city and now has enough era points for a Golden Age. CMF gain a population and suboptimal's score remained the same.

I think I am going to play around with how I finish the techs and see if I can push towards Apprenticeship by forgoing the classical techs not on the path to see if I can 1-turn it. It will probably lead to a few less 1-turn techs but it will be grabbing an expensive one earlier so I can place a few cheaper Industrial Zones.

Turn 47
Start with Gondor finishing the builder and I start the Cothon (due in 2 turns). Builder moves to a wheat tile to farm next turn before moving to the grassland hill forest in the north to chop out the Ancestral Hall. Builder at Osigiliath farms a wheat and will move to the flat grassland forest by the stone to chop. Down by Belem, Ichabod has moved his warrior out to block my warrior from moving along his borders. I move the warrior east and find a lake...

Bologna's warriors red-lined the spear, so I take the 50Icon_Gold Thanks for the help guys! Up north...

Slinger attacks the barb scout that showed up and the warrior by La Venta defogs the northern coast. Might be able to get a boat through up here. Both slinger and warrior will move towards the northwest to look for the camp and defog the rest of the areas around here. Injured warrior is making his way back home to guard the settler for Rohan and be around if Brazil gets aggressive. I switched off of Archery and started Bronze Working. Will work on that for 3 turns before switching to something else.

Internationally, Kaiser finished a civic and grew a pop. Ichabod grew a pop. Suboptimal grew a pop and gained 3 era points. CMF gained 2 era points.

Turn 48
Units move closer to their destination. In the north, slinger throws some rocks at the barb scout again and warrior crosses the river. I will have those 2 search for the barb camp but will probably hold off on taking it out until after the era change for the 2 points. I will lock a Golden Age next turn.

Builder at Gondor farms some wheat and the one at Osgiliath makes his way back towards Gondor. Here is what it looks like at the end of the turn...

Note the road connecting Belem to the jungle tile to its southwest. Ichabod has a trader, most likely heading to his capital.

Internationally, Kaiser gained an empire point (pop or building), Suboptimal planted his 3rd city (6 new empire points), and CMF gain 2 empire points (possible district) and finished a tech.

I will see a huge jump in points next turn. Eight empire points for the 2 unique Cothons, 3 points for a civic, 4 era points for the Cothon, 1 era point for entering the Classical Age of the civic tree, and 2 era points for a new government, totaling 18 point increase. Not enough to catch Kaiser but will reclaim 2nd place in points. More importantly, I will start working on settlers and lets see where things stand in 20 turns.

Had family staying the last few days so just catching up.

Looking good, wonder what the others will make of your big jump next turn?

Turn 49
Open the save to a bunch of pop-ups. Era points for my unique district, boost to Cartography, and finishing Political Philosophy...

Time for a better government...well not my first choice but I go with Oligarchy for at least the next 3 turns. My policies are...

Urban Planning and Colonization for settler production, Agoge in case I need to build more units, and Diplomatic League for the envoy at Mysticism into Hattusa.

Bunch of era points this turn...

Seven in total, earning a Golden Age. I did look at the era screen and saw that there are 10 turns until the next era, so it looks like the change will occur on T59. Here is what it looked like at the end of my turn...

Osgiliath starts a Settler (4 turns) and Gondor starts the Ancestral Hall. I start Mysticism and will switch off of it for a turn to make sure I can complete the AH with 2 chops in 3 turns.

Internationally, Kaiser's score remained the same, Ichabod gained 1 empire point, suboptimal finished a civic, and CMF finished a civic, gained an empire point, and gained 3 era points.

Best bet is everybody, except Ichabod, will think I planted a city and finished a district. I curious how Ichabod is going to react with me taking Oligarchy as my government.

Yeah that might put the wind up him a bit.

Turn 50
Switch out of Mysticism for a turn while I work on the Ancestral Hall. Will switch out of Masonry next turn. Units move around and builders are in position to chop when Mysticism is finished. Here is what it looks like at the end of teh turn...

The injured warrior in the south will head to home to heal. I should get complete vision on the remain fog by Belem unless there is a forested hill just south of the plains hill, west of the Erebor pin. Warrior in the east will move to the second flat desert tile and heal while waiting for the settler out of Gondor.

Internationally, Kaiser plants another city, increasing his empire score by 6 and gaining 3 era points. Might be settling a city next to a natural wonder or cleared a close barb camp? Suboptimal fishes a tech, a civic, and gains 3 era points. CMF gains an empire point (building or population). A few big score increases this last turn. Ichabod's score didn't change.

Speaking of Ichabod, I don't think he is planning anything in the near future. His military power has been dropping, so I think he is having a bad time with the barbs and he has not hooked up any horses or iron. He has 2 possible horses that I can see...

One 3rd ring at his capital and one 3rd ring at Belem. The one by Belem is going to be grabbed when Rohan is settled and I don't think Ichabod will have enough gold to buy it by the time I settle the city. There is also a source by the river north of the desert by him, might be where his fourth city is going.  He could have others in the fog but he has not hooked them up yet. If he was planning an early rush, at least he would be collecting horses or iron by now. Of coarse, I also don't have either hooked up yet, but I also am not planning an early rush. I will keep a close eye on him but think I can relax for the immediate future, or at least until I get through my initial expansion phase.

Good news, let's you carry on with your plan.

Turn 51
Start turn by having my warrior climb the plains hill and defog the rest of the area between me and Brazil...

I switch out Masonry for Wheel and put Mysticism back in to finish next turn. Another milestone turn next turn, I chop the Ancestral Hall to completion, will get an envoy (2-for-1) into Hattusa for +2Icon_Science, and will switch governments to Autocracy (for +2 to all yields) and get the Oligarchy legacy card. Then, my expansion period will really begin. I should have settlers out on T53, T56, T59, T60, and T66. Last to 3 cities but hopefully first to 5 and/or 6.

Internationally, Kaiser gained 2 empire points (district or growth), Suboptimal gained a population and 3 era points and is now in 3rd place, ahead of Ichabod (whose score has not changed). CMF finishes a civic, settled his 3rd city, and gained an era point.
