Oh, I told myself I was going to post to try and boost your morale and that's the best I've got? Yikes, let's try that again

A bit sad to be playing DEITY difficulty as Churchill of England while others get to use broken Financial and other traits that have... uses.

And i have NO cottage land. like, 3 total river tiles for cottages on Deity... so im slowly but surely getting to HBR ( which my asshole babylonian neighbor already has... ) and then im building/whipping into the ground and slamming it all into this CoCo for Cocopuffs mofo for making me have a crap start on a 48HRS PER TURN, WITH SOME PEOPLE STILL NOT MAKING THE TURN, game.

But yeah, im TOTALLY fighting the good fight in about 15-20t. ( last i checked... 8t till HBR finishes ) I think ill actually skip stables in my cities in favor of slamming out as many HA's as i physically can.

How did they trick 50-some people into signing up for such a dumb game... No offense. lol
Reply

Well, they already tricked that many people into playing it once before! So, a 2nd time shouldnt be too hard.

Originally i signed up thinking Hey, maybe they use a mod that makes stuff not broken, or Hey, maybe they will balance the starts so that Pacal gets nothing but hills, and Churchill/toku get floodplain grassland corn. or Hey, lets NOT PLAY ON DEITY. or...... Hey, lets play with Events on too because you know THOSE arent broken.

Yeah...

Anyway... other than upcoming war reports, this is the last "overview" ill do:

Cities: t107 btw.
The capital. Nothing but hills, and 1 riverside grassland tile. ( yeah yeah, ignore ALL my bad micro decisions, i even missed a turn in this game due to no fucks given )

the 2nd city.  Enough food to kill a small child, eventually will pop the great scientist that ill use to golden age my way into 5million Horse Archers.

3rd city, and by now you might be thinking " wow, t107 and you are researching HBR, and building Galleys? " Yes. Because i dont even have MATH. Welcome to deity.

My glorious "border" city. Not on a hill, Claims my ONLY source of horse and if you think the Culture looks a bit weird, its because due to these REALLY STUPID EVENTS, i lost my monument. No positive event for Mr.Superdeath here.

If it wasnt for my undying hatred of Babylon and this whole pitboss, i wouldnt have played a single turn after the rush/choke in a game that takes 2months to get to turn 15.

Fur city.

Newest city, stealing the cow because city 2 had way too much food anyway.

Alrighty, lets talk "balance"

Lets play, SPOT THE RIVERSIDE GRASS. Do you see all of mine? You do? Man, that was easy.

Thats Babylon's capital. You know, Babylon. AGG ( always bad, but it works ) and ORG ( arguably a GREAT trait on deity ) with Agriculture/wheel if im not mistaken.. They sure did need all of that river land to keep up.

( yes i know babylon killed someone up this direction, but STILL )

This pb has been a clusterfuck. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I think it's pretty clear that balance never was and couldn't be a goal on this setup. The mapmaker somewhere mentioned that he drew the rivers by going through the list of three world's 50 greatest or something like that, and the one in the picture actually looks longer than the real Bio-Bio, so you got lucky there tongue

The initial choke was bad taste, and I hope you still make him pay for it.

I'm global lurking on the other forum as well and it is pretty fun. Lots of little stories developing in the various corners of the world. Painfully slow though both due to the 48h timer and deity level. I think the later is in order to slow down lategame tech speed? Very much prefer the mod solution we're playing here
(I'd argue that giving everybody precious metal art their start is in itself somewhat moddy)

I would hope a game like this they put less emphasis on winning and losing and more about having cool stories along the way.  With that in mind, rushing was very much a dick move and he deserves all the horcher wrath coming his way.

I think it would have been nice to have this style of map ran as AI, just to see what part of the world would become dominant. But man, would have been nice to have SOME sort of balance thought of for this.... Coupled with the horrible turn pace, and deity makes this pitboss nothing but depression island. Im sure Civforum players have a hugely different meta, but why on earth would they want to Lengthen an already long long pitboss?

And that is something i either overlooked in signing up for this, or they didnt bother to mention. Im... rather competitive ( although still havent put in enough effort to win one of these... ) so not being able to win just makes me bitter.

Dont worry..

I think the diety setting is really interesting and changes the meta up a bit. Not a fan of the map and the 52 players

I think Deity is a truly terrible idea. That crushes your happy cap and unit maintenance, so it embellishes map imbalance. If you have no commerce, you literally can't play the game compared to the players that have it in a way that isn't true on more normal difficulties. Deity as a setting exists just to stack the deck in ridiculous ways to prop up a hilariously incompetent AI.

It sounds like their rationale was slowing down the mid/late game teching, which is totally valid. However, if they're already modding the game, there's a much simpler way to handle that. Just bump the tech costs higher in later eras. Do like +10% Ren, +20% Ind, +30% Mod, etc. Deity just means if your start is bad, have fun getting chained to a 0-potential civ for a year with 5 cities while you wait for someone to put you out of your misery.
