Interest is a Civ 6 Rising Storm SG? Peaceful conquest

Just wondering if there is any interest in a Civ 6 SG game. My idea would be to bring back the famous variant where we need to conquer the whole map, while never capturing cities with military units (i.e. we need to use the new Loyalty system). Perhaps we can get some better knowledge about his new mechanic.

Would anyone be interested?

I would like to lurk and ask really simple questions. I just can't seem to get my head around Civ6

Yes, but I could only start in September

I am in.

Who are you thinking for a leader? The 2 that I can think would be good would be Eleanor and Pedro II. Eleanor because flipped cities go directly to her and she applies negative loyalty to surrounding cities with great works. Pedro II for cheap Entertainment Districts to run Bread and Circuses projects. There might be another leader or 2 that is good at loyalty but I can't think of them right now.

We would also need to make sure Dido is not in the game, since her coastal cities always have 100% loyalty and can't be flipped.

My initial thought was Eleanor. I also considered Lautaro. The Civ 4 game I'm basing this on had a rule that you couldn't capture cities with military, but you could declare war and kill units. That was because, with sufficient units inside a city in Civ 4, there was no way to culturally flip the city. If we went with a similar rule, Lautaro would be great. But I think that would kind of go against the spirit of the challenge, so we can perhaps change the rules a bit in that regard.

Noted about Dido. My idea was to randomly roll the civs (without Dido) in random.org and then assign them to the starting save. Perhaps a lurker could do it, so we don't know the opponents before the game start.

I think Kaiser can join and we place him in the end of the roster. This way, we can start the game when we are ready and he gets to play when he can. I also welcome all the lurkers and questions!

I'd be interested in playing in an SG...it'd be a nice change of pace. What difficulty (I admit to puttering about on Prince and King in SP)

Eleanor is the obvious candidate. However, I played a city flip game a bit before PBEM 18 was organized and the trick isn't actually getting cities to flip. The trick is to avoid cultural victory while trying it, particularly if the objective is to flip the whole map. In that regard I failed, as I got the cultural victory first. However, I did flip a 22-pop capital in the process. As Thrawn alluded to it becomes a bit of a click and wait fest - lots of turns doing nothing.

Pedro would be the obvious alternative with access to cheap Carnival districts.

I have to ask if would it be appropriate to play either of these in an SG when they're both in an active PBEM and several players would be participating in both games?

I think the Mapuche would be the interesting way to do this as it would give the players a bit more...agency(?)...in getting the job done. I don't know, though, how well it'd work for a flip-only game - get pressure on a city, completely pillage it out and kill a bunch of units nearby.

I don't think there are any other civs that directly interact with the loyalty mechanic.

@Ruff_Hi: if you've got questions about how things work don't hesitate to ask in the PBEM threads (well, OK, I'll speak for my own thread on that one). Given the small player base we're always looking for more players and if asking Q's will help you climb the learning curve by all means ask away.

Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia
Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England
Rhymin' Simon: PBEM 20 - Indonesia (Team w/ China)

You can turn off victories in advanced game creation page to prevent cultural victory and other victory conditions, then only way to win is eliminate every enemy cities by conquering or flipping.

You might also leave out Zulu as opponent, its loyalty bonus for garrisoned units make harder to flip Zulu cities then most other civs or if you want extra challenge, feel free to include them.

EDIT: if you own lastest expansion, it also includes Secret Societies. One of secret society Voidsingers allows you to purchase cultists if you reach industrial era and cultists can stand next enemy cities and use charge to decrease loyalty of that city by 10. Every cultist got 3 charges.

Spiffing Brit put up a video in the past day or two using Eleanor plus Voidsingers. He was even able to use them to flip Phoenicia's capital but he had to wait until the information age and run a bunch of projects to do it. Wound up going into the late 200's to get it done. There seemed to be a bit of messing around in game, though, as he took Germany's capital at one point, got a cultural victory but then Aachen completely disappeared from the map after that point. His no-city Maori run used a mod to swap Amani's promotion with Hattusa's suzerainty benefit so it wouldn't surprise me if there were shenanigans on this latest game.

I'd assume we'd go with Eleanor as a leader, France or England is up for debate (though France seems to make more sense thematically...Eleanor's bonus doesn't apply to Artifacts, does it?). We could probably even manage Phoenicia without Secret Societies, if you could time a bunch of spy missions just right...I dunno, it'd be interesting. I don't think Dido is an automatically aborted run.
