( No Players )[Lurker Thread] CIV VI PBEM19 Beginner

Ok I have placed strategical resources and Luxury resources:

Strategics / per player:
2 Iron
2 Horse + 1 per island CS
2 Niter focussed inward
2 Oil (one on the sea outside, one one a lake inside) +1 per desert CS
2 Aluminium (central)
2 Coal (coastal outside of capital direction between players)
1 Uranium (coastel halfway between players) +1 per desert CS

Luxuries / per player:
1 sugar near capital
4 of Orange / Spices / Cocoa / Coffee / Tobacco (1 monopol per player, located in their space but close to potential borders)
5 furs (located on the ourside ring, halfway between players
6 pearls on inside lakes, each player should be able to access at least one
2 Amber (island CS)
3 Whale (island CS)
5 Incense (desert CS)
5 Dyes (desert CS close, quick settling will allow to control these)
8 Ivory (inner circle, a cities distance away from the desert)
8 Gems (inner circle, near the desert a bit closer than Ivory)
5 Gypsum (near halfway point between players)

Any suggestions/comments from your side?
Is the map to lush?
I had the feeling that Player 4 and Player 5 have slightly bigger areas but this might be due to me circling their backpocket island CS which is placed a bit further W due to the Warrior spawning W.
Do you see any glaring imbalances?

Player 1 and player 5 are the only ones with +4 Campus locations, but I don't know that it's a big enough of a deal to balance (no +8 location like in PBEM 16). Part of me feels that Player 3 may be a bit constricted in terms of Campus placement but again, dunno that it needs to be fixed.

Player 1 has a very large clump of resources off to the right, centered on that 'V' mountain chain - 13 contiguous tiles with resources. That might need to be thinned I also think that by giving each player only one luxury monopoly it limits the ability of players to trade resources, no?

I have edited in some more reefs and gethermal fissures, Player 3 now has a 4 science E and NW at the coast. I also provided Player 2 with some more Campis options.

I can add more luxuries or distribute them differently. i stopped for the moment as I felt that we already have quite some luxuries on the map, but this has been more of a unconscious feeling than a detailed thought process.

Currently, If all players develop equally, each player should be able to get 10 different luxuries, one of which as a monopoly of 4, the others typically only once, maybe 2 or 3 twice.
That means they can provide in total between 40 and 64 amenities to their empire.
That would be sufficient to keep 8 - 12 each with 11 POP cities (our games typically tend to end around the medieval/renaissance era) content without any other amenities coming in from districts/wonders.
Player 1 for example could tightly fit 15-17 minimum distance cities in the area I marked for him, certainly the border cities will likely be contested.

Should we give each player a 2nd 4x Monopoly resource?

I think a second monopoly resource, or one or two "shared monopoly" (e.g. two players get access to one resource, three players get access to another) resources might be good.

Player 2 has more food compared to everybody else and Player 5 (and maybe Player 4) needs a little more food.

Edit: And by needs more food, maybe add something 1st ring with 3Icon_Food or a few 2nd ring ones.

You mean just the capital or the expected territory in general?

I will add shared luxuries specific for each border region

Yeah, his theorycrafting doesn't really apply. Of course, you could always post something vague to his thread like "Interesting...mischief"

Ironically, he's the one with Russia in his civ list.

I think we are also nearing map finalization, do we want to provide starting screens with the CIV selection?

If you've got the resources edited, sure. I think Woden's edited comment about food was in regards to the second and third rings of the capital if the player SIPs. Want to make sure that the 2nd & 3rd rings of all capitals are generally equal in Icon_FoodIcon_Production so someone isn't growing slower than everyone else straight out of the gate.
