My objection is to the fact that I feel like we aren't looking at the same screenshots or something. lol

That is their start. They have 3 foods of varying strength + the sugar. What picture are you looking at?

FIN seems to be very much in vogue. Every single team talks about picking it, with Serdoa taking Wang Kon that was coveted by two other teams. Victoria seems to be on people's minds as well.
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either. shakehead

America I would totally try if not for the Myst bonus commerce AND the fact that you upped the cost of it making it difficult to get to early and a huge cost opportunity. You basically have forced everyone to try and get Myst because otherwise every civ that doesn't gets -1 commerce. So just to break even with the other civs you have to tech Myst even if you don't want to go for a religion early. And by making it more expensive you made it harder to do that as well. Basically a waste of time and commerce. Anyone who doesn't pick a myst civ has to consume a neighbor in the early game to keep par I think. Cyrus of mongols might possibly be able to do it, but not much else.

You don't have to apologize. I also already made a decision regarding Myst, so enjoy the last PB that has commerce on Myst for the foreseeable future. smile

I don get this. Lewwyn is equating +1 commerce at the start of the game to consuming a neighbor in the early game, while at the same time saying that teching Mysticism is a waste of time and commerce. By the time 2nd cities are founded (30-40 turns) the +1 commerce from Mysticism is buried in the obscurity of other variables and factors as to be irrelevant in the civ selection ... is 2nd city food on a river for +1 commerce? Is 2nd city connected via river trade route? Does starting with something other than Mysticism speed up connection of another resource and/or your settler and/or enable whipping a couple turns earlier? Also in a small game, if everyone else picks Mysticism you can tech it later at a steep known tech discount.

When the mysticism change was being originally discussed for CtH the small impact amid other variables was brought up. That plus the delay in some key techs to prevent rushes on tighter maps I believe was why it was done. My counter argument at the time was that it might appear that it was a must have because otherwise your giving up on value. I don't think anyone else has thought the value worth a neighbor though......

Surprised by the popularity of nerfed PRO here, when in 11 player PB 54 it got just one pick.
Who's got it right?
