Minor stuff:
  • Hawk's Hollow micromanaged to grow to size 3 by next turn.
  • Rolan micromanaged to build the trebuchet in 3 turns rather than 4 turns, due to the loss of Bureaucracy.
  • Gathered most of our ~15 troops by the capital.
  • Had many workers cottage Northwarden so they would be closer to improve Loriel next turn. Loriel is our newest to-be city.
  • Switched Port Natal to finish its trebuchet, to avoid wasting excess hammers. Port Natal can also complete a catapult next turn. Unfortunately, they will only have 3 XP ... oh well. frown
  • Yabon is also set to complete a trebuchet next turn, and this one will have five XP!

Now onto the really exciting stuff!

Civic changes! Note how these civics affected our economy.

(FYI, we have 10 Confucianist cities - we should aim to have 11 soon.)

1. Crydee whipped. Note how, due to our careful planning, it will complete a partially-built trebuchet the following turn! :D

2. Land's End and Carse each drafted a rifleman and each has been boarded onto a ship.

3. Yabon drafted, and that rifleman goes deeper into our territory.

4. Now for the bad news:

According to the log, India captured 2 cities, including the island city - so now only 2 nations control Centralia.

Also according to the log, Korea is in Caste/Pacifism in a Golden Age that will expire on turn 214. Man, they're becoming an awfully tempting target ....

Last thing - I did not close borders with Dantski since I thought - why not get an extra turn of trade route income before we close them now? (We can cancel open borders on turn 207 definitely.) One quirky thing about trade routes is that we are getting zero trade routes from Inca even though we have open borders. Some cities have trade routes to our cities rather than Inca's.

Draft t207:

1. Ironpass (Has Confucianism) - Island city
2. Sethanon (Has Confucianism - working a worthless tile)
3. Carse again (No Confucianism, but is working a worthless tile). This will likely be the last draft of Carse, which currently has a +5 happiness surplus after its first draft.

Draft t208:

1. Crydee (Has Confucianism)
2. Queg (Has Confucianism) - Island city
3. Ylith (Has Conficuanism) - Island city

Draft t209:

To be announced. Hopefully Stardock

Well, this was unpleasant. Sullla (whom athlete referred to as a "sneaky fucking bastard") held the clock down to the last seconds to load troops next to athlete's city, which will be unable to build anything since the city governor worked a farm rather than a 1h tile. I guess we'll need to watch out for Sullla's clock maneuvering as well as ours. I really would like to see what Sullla's plans are like for a war. Even more so, I'd love to pull a Sullla move on himself, but there's no guarnatee that I'll be able to do that since I can't sacrifice all the time I have (and sleep) to keep checking the clock.

Anyway, things went as planned for our turn. We canceled open borders with Dantski. I'm now thinking we could attack with 2 stacks. We could keep 1 near the capital, for Gao, and another behind Krondor, to attack Kumbi Saleh. I put some cities on siege because we want a lot of siege asap. We should probably split the siege evenly, although perhaps more to the southern stack since it is in position to capture more cities. Personally I think we have enough siege in the southern stack.

I marked a sign over where I think we should hold our second stack while we wait.

Your call on where the worker by Magrave's port goes ... not sure what to do with him.

What do you expect the composition of your army to be?

Thanks for the effort you guys are putting into the thread - I wish I had the discipline in PBEM 2... :-(

Looks like there's some issue going on in the E-mail and technical issues. I'll try not to get involved and potentially anger someone since I enjoy playing Civ and do not wish to antagonize anyone. rolleye

Square Leg - you're very welcome.

Our army will be composed of ...

1. Riflemen
2. Macemen
3. Catapults
4. Trebuchets

...with an emphasis on riflemen.

Trust me guys, this will not be like our previous "wars" where we barely sent any troops. We are going to attack with a strong force.

EDIT: So that's what's going on! There's a debate over whether India should have moved those troops with 7 seconds left.

DMOC, the game continues without a reload.
Turn will be paused for the weekend in t208, so we can/should wait with our moves till the end of turn. At least we should move our units AFTER Dantski ended his turn, to stay out of trouble when declaring.

In a few more turns we'll get control of a tile 2SW of Kumbah Saleh, making it possible for us to attack with only 1 turn moving through enemy territory. So two stacks is a good plan! Strike at Gao and Kumbah at the same time.

Research wise, we could go for steel (cannons) or Mil Sc (Cavalry). What do you suggest? Or do you want to save cash and upgrade macemen -> riflemen and cat's -> cannons?

I asked Korea for a prolongued NAP (t240 or t250). Dantski must be our first target due to the cultural situation and India. If India takes Dantski out as well they will have way to much land. Korea - Inca can come afterwards if we are succesfull with Inca being a better target due to a lack in tech.

Military Science does not lead to Cavalry (it leads to grenadiers).

You're thinking of Military Tradition. To be honest, I prefer Steel right now. (Military Science is usually a crappy tech anyway.) I think it gives us a better weapon to use offensively than cavalry. And anyway, we can always tech cavalry later and build horses that can catch up to the battle front using their 2 move units. Yet another argument for delaying Military Tradition at the moment is that we have no stables in our empire. Finally, Steel opens up a host of new industrial era techs, and we want to get that big, fat expensive tech out of the way by the time our Golden Age ends.

I really hope Korea will not intervene at all with our war. It looks like they won't (good) due to their Caste System + Pacifism civic switch.

Keep an eye on CivStats for when Dantski finishes his turn.

You're right, my mistake. I always mix those two up.

Let's swap to Steel then and get that done in our GA.
After that, we might want to go for Astronomy (more research) or Industrialism (Infantry!). Or do we need to get Const - Democracy in first?

It will take some time before Dantski ends his turn since Athlete requested a pause.

  • Romali most likley whipped three times throughout his empire (due to three score decreases).
  • India captured two Ottoman cities.
  • Crydee, Queg, Ylith drafted (all three drafted rifles have two XP)
  • 1 worker is on a galley ready to be transported from Centralia to the main ring. We have more than enough workers on Centralia at the moment. That same galley can be used to transfer a second worker on turn 209.
  • India has the Jewish shrine in Chancellorsville (happened on the turn).
  • To try and maintain the balance between our two stacks, I moved 5 catapults on the path towards the northern stack.
  • Research 100% on Steel now.

Next turn:
  • Confucian missionary to La Mut
  • Port Natal, Rolan, Sethanon both build a trebuchet
  • Whip Stardock if possible
  • Whip Queg for 2 pop trebuchet
  • Worker near the northern stack chop the forest to put production to Krondor

Any suggestions on a drafting locale for turn 209?

I recommend:

1. Stardock even with the whip
2. Queg even with whip
3. Krondor

Or we could do Land's End again (no Confu) or Ironpass (has Confu + Barracks) or Port Natal (hasn't been drafted yet, but no Confucianism)

Not many good city drafting choices, though.

Pictures of our military will come later once we get everyone in their proper stacks
