[Spoilers] naufragar's fist full of pesos (Montezuma)

It's pretty much base BtS. We're using a mod that does something to Corporations, but since I didn't/don't expect to last until Corporations, I didn't pay much attention. Otherwise, we've banned nukes, certain spy missions, Apostolic Palace victory, maybe others but I think those are the main bans.

lol You joke, but this 48h turn pace is a lot more manageable than PB54's 12 hour turnaround time!

I thought I was going to be ok, but I did not account for an extra twelve Numidians!

Well, that's the end for our young hero. The pig city will certainly fall, but more worrying is that by moving all my units to the East, I'm inviting an attack from Ziankali in the west, who just finished his war against Kreutzberg.

I was wrong about the ivory. Nane didn't have any in his borders. He's buying it off the Ashoka player way to the south for six gold a turn. I checked the diplo screen but also, someone traded maps with me. It was an uneven trade:

I've declared war on nane to grab the second half of the turn timer. I've offered peace, but he'd be crazy to accept it. I don't have nearly enough spears to stop 12 Numids + 8 War Elephants.

P.S. I'm not allowed to complain about my position after seeing poor KSL (the player on the British Isles). lol Wow, what a terrible draw. lol

Spears are necessary to counter Numid raids but for his main stack an orthodox Axe/Cat army will do (and is actually better) if you can get the numbers (I assume not?).

Just noticed, but did the yellow HRE player really settle their second city 'Prag' in the mountainous tundra area west of their capitol? That's rough.

Almost certainly not. I now understand why he didn't attack earlier. He was waiting for his cavalry.

I was reading the PB51 Zuschauerfadensbeitraege and I saw the debate about axes+cats vs. horse archers. I can't imagine ever being scared of axes+cats if I was roughly as strong as an opponent. For every two catapults an attacker has, the defender can get three axes (more because the attacker has to travel slowly). I can't imagine a situation in which axes+cats defeats someone that was not already practically defeated. The Numidians are so much more scary because after taking the pigs city, they can fork every city in my empire. If he didn't have the two movers, I could choose which cities to lose and which to defend. As it stands, I'm terrified.

Spears will perform fine against axes at the pig city. That city has walls (+50%) and is on a hill (+25%). This means that my spears are equal to his axes (without shock). My catapults don't win against his axes or horse archers, but I was already building them, so I whipped them when I saw his army. Hopefully they soak up some collateral damage. I don't have enough non-catapult units to attack him, unfortunately.

I simply can't get the numbers to hold the pig city, but depending on the dice rolls, I might be able to blunt his attack there. This is very all-or-nothing. If he takes the city easily, I have no more defenders anywhere. (And I've already said how this is the perfect time for Ziankali to attack me.  scared )

I wasn't talking about attacking but defending. You can defend against his main stack with a Axe/Cat first strike. Maybe see if can you trade for elephants. If you don't have the numbers now conced space/cities for more time. The HAs are an issue of course.

Putting your army in the city is a terrible idea. He will remove defenses with his cats/damage you units and then clean them up with minimal losses except for some cats. You also need your spears to defend against HA raids.

(Note for readers: this kind of discussion would break the rules for rb PBs but not for Civforum PBs.)
