Hmm, MOLE was our final word after all. MOLE, SHADOW and KNIGHT are quite hard to get with a single clue. Lewwyn was probably hoping for us to pick up MOLE as the plus 1.
Sorry, team.

The swing factor was that blue never found Mole. I guessed pretty early on that was one of the Farmer words. (of course I have no way to prove that guess - but you all saw how bad I am at lying from Werewolf...)
I always preach to look at the clues in both directions. Don't just look for what the clue is indicating -- look for what targets point to the clue, to see what would make the spymaster think of that clue. Draft -> Farmer doesn't do that. Mole does. So does Thumb, particularly given the clue as Farmer rather than Farm or Farming, since nothing else in the result set pointed to a Farmer the person.
Of course, that didn't quite work for ourselves when we picked Mouth over Strike... but sometimes this game is just a coin-flip as to whose turn it is at the critical moment.

Honestly, I don't know what you guys didn't try draft on the 3rd round? We lost when you passed since it left a grey blocker. When you passed you left it as plus 1 but none of you gave me an option like "unlimited means draft is wrong". I couldn't clue the 3 remaining words together, and I couldn't do nazgul unlimited without you guys telling me you would pick a different +1 word because unlimited nazgul would have made you think shadow knight strike.
I'm also not sure why you guys had an anathema to mole as a farmer word! Farmers have to deal with pests like moles. Mouth is two steps removed from farmer and there's no connection between draft and farmer, your connection was drafting for baseball farm teams? what? This comes from a guy with a 60 acre farm in the family and farmers dating back a few hundred years.
My goal was to win in 4 rounds, power through spring and ground greys on farmer. In the end it almost worked! Really if you had hit draft round 3 I think you would have fallen to MOLE as the last +1 after the red team hit mouth.
It was extremely frustrating.

Heh. Chalk one up to gut instinct, I suppose.
Like T-hawk, I also thought that MOLE was a Farmer word (which I why I didn't argue that MOUTH could be Blue, even though Blue team was considering it). Good game.

I thought we were all largely on the same page, team. I wasn't sure how to get the board clued well at all at first: there were lots of overlap between blue and red words. But once I found University as a clue then I felt we had a good shot.
Planetary vs planet was me over thinking that moon wasn't really a planet. Of course it isn't but what else would be closer than moon? I completely missed planetary strike as a combination, which was a shame. It would have been a lot smoother if i had put planetary: 3 as my second clue.
I actually did consider sting but didn't think it would draw you guys to Strike as a word. I was trying to think of what word would specifically tie being hit by a scorpion. Poisoned seemed like it might run into Shadow and RPG games tying those together. I also know there is a poisonous mole, and wanted to steer away from that. I think Azoth posted exactly what I had thought. I didn't consider mouth as having a connection, and missed that Envenomed could be seen as an adjective. I was trying to add some action to the word envenom to tie in strike. Envenoms would have been better, perhaps.
Of course, T-hawk was a fantastic teammate with how he set me up into that Envenomed clue by laying out that he was going to point to Moon + Dwarf if I did an unlimited clue. That was very helpful!
Good round in all, and now we get to play a 3rd round!

This would be close to the first mental image evoked by the word "farmer" for me.
I know that draft horses and oxen have been replaced by tractors and other mechanized beats in the West for quite some time now, but there are still quite a few places in the world doing it old school.

Yes. It's not over yet. Laugh or cry ?
Oh, and I would have missed DRAFT for Farmer as Red because it's a DRAUGHT horse. I genuinely think that the difference in spelling would have been enough to trip me up. I would feel a DRAFT or put down a DRAFT excluder, but ask for a DRAUGHT beer. Unlike plow/plough I have somehow reserved the different spellings for different uses in my head ...
I do wonder if this game works anything like as well in other, less ... confused ... languages.
