Serdoa's SPOILER-Thread: I am legend?

Well, Rusten got a few more units and is defending himself well so naturally I offered him peace. I won't gain anything more in this war, he won't either. Of course, he very well might say "Fuck you" and keep the war or even go on the attack. That would certainly bog us both down even further, but he might not feel like he still has a shot at the win, so understandable if he would seek revenge against the one responsible.

If I realized earlier how close his cap is, I might not have attacked. On the other hand though, these cities would all pressure Rostov culturally pretty soon. I get why he feels entitled to them, I would too, but at the same time, what am I to do? Sit there and wait till I am encircled by his cities? That is a disaster waiting to happen.

I'm also unhappy with the happy-distribution, especially the metals. I get that pindi tried to set them up as a natural point to fight over. I did that myself in one of the maps I made. It's a neat idea. Will civs cooperate and share the tiles or will the have constant border tensions because of it? But the way these were setup on this map mean that - just counting tiles - the silver was closer to Rusten the gold closer to NoGas. Drawing "fair" borders, I wouldn't get either. Not being IMP against two IMP civs punished me even more than the map already did, but honestly, I never was going to get my share of both spots. NoGas on the other hand seem to sit alone, even SD stared comfortably far from them it seems, so they could happily concentrate going in my direction first. I don't know the situation for Lewwyn, but it seems that at least Bob is also really close to Rusten, so they had probably settled their border quickly, leaving Lewwyn to expand towards SD without having to fear for his other side. Furthermore the north-south border (equator) is having a few jungled tiles. Not many, 2-3 rows I think. But that is enough that settling there is not really enticing, while also giving a natural border that both sides might quickly agree upon as settling a city directly in the jungle (as SD did with the one I took) is ... making it really hard to do anything with it. Basically most players will leave those till IW if somehow possible.

Anyhow, I still like the map, I just think the starting positions could have been a little bit more evenly distributed. That's probably the one thing I would add to me doing so badly that I don't take responsibility for.

That said, Demos T81:

Just ignore GNP for the moment - we might have to wait for some cottages to come online... look at the food instead  lol

No, but seriously: look at that food-stat. I'm 2nd, while fighting a war and whipping my cities for it. I'm also up to 10 cities btw, because I apparently also settle cities while fighting a war. If Rusten gives me peace, I will build some workers and hopefully get the economy somehow back. If not, I will build some workers and hopefully get the economy somehow back. Because honestly, if we have peace or not, I need a few more workers. I'd rather not say how many I have, but I guess I can reveal that you can have lost at least one finger in an accident and you still could count them on both hands. Probably would be in a better position if some of those axes would be workers.

Anyhow: LOOK AT THAT FOOD-STAT!

Also, look at production. That's crazy. Worst is at 36, I am second worst with 46 while the leader has 53. I guess I am not doing that bad, considering all that happened this game.

Ok, actual game mechanic question: I thought that you could use roads in your enemies territory, even if you are at war with him. That obviously isn't the case as I realized some turns ago, but ... why? Do I misremember that you could or was that changed in the mod?

Well, there is commando promotion that requires Combat IV and Military Science, which is good because Commando tends to be one of or the most OP promotion available: https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Commando_(Civ4)

Is this what you're looking for or did I misunderstand your question?

That was never possible.

Your unit needs the Commano Promotion for that. Same as in BtS.

You can however build roads in enemy territory (I think). lol

The latest example of commando madness is from PB52. Even though OH was already winning the game, this is what sealed the game: http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...#pid760654

What happens when you can use those roads is very memorable, so that might be the source of your confusion. Also, see the end of PB52 (Pindicator/Old Harry-thread).
