Defender of the Faith will not help me - it only helps the founder of the religion. I also don't get a strength bonus for coastal defense (that's Japan). Their target will entirely depend on start locations and proximities. Masonry will be most important after Astrology and Sailing.

yeah maybe we get lucky and they are far away. need to be ready anyway.

we need to treat our gold as one pot at the start at least. no point me having 80 gold and you having 80 when 160 will buy a builder as an example.

Yeah, they get +5 CS when in formation with a land unit. Hmmm...that effectively means I can give all my Jong +5 CS at the cost of a scout unit.

I agree on treating as one pot of cash and prioritizing our needs. I've actually found that if is plentiful that buying an early monument or two (or the first builder) can be a good way to a fast start.

the builder is a good buy even in sp.

the monument is a better prospect with pooling as it's available earlier.

would your formation only count with your units?

the scout thing is interesting. would have said building one is pointless as they have limited use. this makes that a bit better but probably not enough.

Formation only counts with my units as far as I know. The scouts would all need to be built before skirmishers came online and they'd be sitting ducks. However, the +5CS applies to both ranged and melee attacks, making a jong 50/60 instead of 45/55 (55/65 with a Great Admiral but I expect to be beaten to most of those by England & Phoenicia with their cheap Harbors).

Assuming China builds the Oracle, they could monopolize the Merchants, Engineers, and/or Generals.

On the Great Person note, Indonesia could choose Divine Spark!?   The prophet points become faith, and campus districts are planned.  Probably terrible, but interesting if the team wants to take 2 of the first 3 prophets.

That works in a limited manner.  I think it's more beneficial that the team have Choral Music if it's available as that would allow faster progress through the civics tree.  Cultural generation can often be a limiting factor in advancement and for Indonesia in particular its unit will likely appear earlier in the tree than usual.

If we grabbed two of the first three prophets then Japan or Russia screwed up, they mis-guessed where Astrology was in the tree or we got very lucky in finding the tech or eureka.

Agreed. also if you get first choice of pantheon as Indonesia you want something that generates lots of faith. Probably earth goddess
