Your capital is a nightmare. Those few Keshiks won't take it.

Ha. I use "We do what we must because we can" every chance I get, and no one ever gets it. frown

I'm not sure. He's got 8 5xp Keshiks against my 3 archers, 2 spears, and 1 horse archer. The archers and spears can each kill a keshik, but I'm pretty sure they get wounded enough for a second keshik to kill them. My horse archer will die to a keshik. Assuming Vanrober attacks with all 8 next turn, I expect to lose my horse archer and two units in exchange for 5 keshiks. Then the next turn, he has 4 keshiks (1 fresh one comes up) against 3 of my archers/spears, which will be wounded and unable to promote. I think I have to get lucky, not incredibly lucky, but I do think I need a touch of luck. Of course, I haven't tested this, and I'm just sort of guessing.  popcorn

Vanrober now fields catapults, but I've got a few turns of peace.

I also have a second build queue for more bodies.

I'm not going to pretend I'm not happy about this.

But I will be restrained.

Sorry about ruining your game! I feel I should explain. My original capital was hot trash and lacking food, so I moved it southeast. So that alone moved me towards you quite a bit. In addition, the city sites around me were so terrible that it made sense to reach far south with my third city on a spot that was far closer to you than my original start because it was much better land. It was super greedy.

Once I had a feel for the geography, I felt you were going to come at me for that city plant for sure. It seemed inevitable. So I decided to try to get a first strike in... Plus I knew about your copper being vulnerable. Once I committed to that, you would never be friendly with me, so I had to commit. Also, I was having a really hard time summoning any interest in this game, so I thought a little war might help. (It did not.)

The cruel irony here is that one turn where I had a 70% chance to end it - I was going to offer you my civ. I wasn't sure if you would take it, but I was hoping for that to be my ticket out of the game and I could just ded-lurk you or something. Of course, that didn't work out lol. I felt bad though at that stage because you were defending admirably and clearly putting a lot of effort in, and I was ruining your game while playing turns as fast as possible. So, my apologies. It definitely wasn't intentional. Congrats on out-lasting me though, and very well defended! You pulled a few stunts that were really nice.

No worries! You had the perfect ingredients for a chariot rush: close horses, a neighbor who opened with a wonder, and a line of cities stretching to that neighbor. If I hadn't finished Archery the very turn you crossed my borders, it would've been a very different game.

I think you're probably right that war was inevitable, given the geography. wink I was impressed at how your demos seemed to keep up with Cairo and Ruff despite the chariot build up. (I don't know their situations.) Paradoxically, once I knew my game was doomed, a lot of stress was lifted, so I could focus on forlorn hope. So, after a bit of despair in the middle, I was actually enjoying the struggle.

Thanks for the game!

I feel a little guilty bumping this thread when the real show is obviously Gira and Miguelito, but hey, I got a great prophet!

(After losing Stonehenge and resetting the progress.  rant ) I can't tell you much about the Giraflorens-Miguelito war except that Miguelito has gained two cities and suffered no power dips yet. (He has Cataphracts.) He also lent me some copper. I am grateful for the gift but not sure what that's about. I'm certainly useless as an ally; I don't even know where Gira's territory is. I had thought this gift was a warning about an attack from Vanrober, but nothing's happened so far. Frankly, I don't know why Vanrober is letting me live. Perhaps he was waiting for me to settle the Great Prophet? He can certainly kill me at will.

For what it's worth, I'm not actually building that settler. Currently working on a War Elephant. I settled the Great Prophet and now I'm making gold at 100% science. lol And I'm not last in GNP. That's Miguelito, interestingly.

My Crop and MfG would be competitive if you add a 0 to the end.  dancing
