[SPOILERS] Roland and Suboptimal Team Up

I think canals is a cracking idea but I don't know enough about them to know how it will all work. Will certainly be looking at it.

Here is a thing do you take the chocolate site and I take all that desert over at you and build Petra?

Obviously to early to decide that but you are better on coast. A Petra city with a run off flat desert to build great walls on is epic for China. 2 food 1 hammer 7 gold 6 culture tiles to work after castles.

I don't think we have the gold to make that much out of me buying builder at cap but we will see.

we also need to have a look at where strategic resources might be.

some of those plains will be horses. Iron on my Grassland hill at cap?

When you discover animal husbandry can I still put my district down on horses? I assume so.

I don't know how Canals work when you're at war with someone. I'd assume that anyone with open borders (or at war) can move through them just like they move through other districts.

I'll think about that chocolate site. I do see that you have the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus pinned there - you don't have a Harbor marked and that's a required adjacency. If the desert is big enough west of my capital that may be a workable swap. I'd need one tile (likely the second ring desert but possibly the third ring east of the mountain) for a Campus. If that fogged third ring tile is not desert I'll buy the mountain and that tile and then put the Campus inland to preserve desert for you.

Horses can appear on any flat plains or grassland tile. Iron could appear on any non-forested hill tile. In theory it's also flagged in the XML to not be adjacent to rivers. Regarding resource visibility I believe that whoever completes the tech can see the resource while the other person cannot. You should be able to pave over any horses with Holy Sites before you complete Animal Husbandry.

i didn't have the tag right for the harbor so you could see it. In truth i think the cap get's the mausoleum it has 4 water tiles i want to be always working. i am just loathe to give away another hill at the capital.

have played my turn. nothing much happened except spear kindly moved next to capital and got smacked.

will post screenshots in the morning.

one issue with the city swap is lost faith from Jebel and 2 amenities from coliseum. also IZ adjacency later. May still be worth it though. also extra settler travel time.

TURN 17

I realise my buy builder at cap idea is bad as it terminally delays the starting of Stonehenge. Targeting religion on turn 37-39 depending on pantheon delay.

Spear moves next to cap which is might nice of them.

Smack it with slinger and move Warrior up to block retreat. I suppose it might suicide on warrior inter turn but that seems unlikely. Slinger will kill it while warrior goes to take out camp. I wonder if it is so bold because camp has produced another unit but i think that only happens once a scout reports location back.

Over in your area scout retreats

That spearman will either retreat away from the warrior or stay put since it's pursuing the slinger. Either way you should be able to kill it and get the camp cleared.

While I'd like to go south because there's open ground part of me is thinking to go east instead, if only to push that scout further away from the cities.

Looking at that desert that name is either the Tennger Sand Sea or the Tennger Massif. If it's the sand sea then that desert is going to be quite large given the position of the name. That could make your location swap idea more interesting.

If it is large we swap for sure.

Are their any security concerns around that I am missing?

There are no security issues that I can think of. No one has ships yet, we know Norway is somewhere south and the barbs, so far, are tame.

was thinking about a fragmented empire being that bit harder to defend but we can and will work on that as a team though.

Ah...I see what you were referring to. In the case of a Petra city to my east I think it'd be relatively secure if it was off the coast and possibly used a hill or two to block LoS from the coast. Me parking a chocolate city down there could be a bit of a challenge to defend but coastal defense in these maps is always going to be a challenge. Hopefully we'll have "first mover" status on frigate-class units, which should help things out.
