So, this land seems to end here. I could either go north and see if I meet someone, or turn back south to scout near me. (btw - I love toroids. I have jungle and tundra with 1 tile between them wink )

I think I have to come back and meet someone later. I need to know where the good spots are.

Jowy is taking an unusual approach. He's grown to size 3, so I presume he's going to whip out his worker. I guess he wanted to take advantage of the whale?

Switched my citizen from the deer to the whale. SHould have done that a couple of turns ago, I think. As is, I run a risk of not having anything for the worker to do.

I think I'm going to chop/mine the hill N of the deer, though I'm not sure.

Turn 24:

This has not been the most exciting 20 turns - no barbs means just a lot of walking around and the land is such that I retraced my steps a lot.

Turn 24 means it's getting time to get settler #1 out, so here are the two spots I'm looking at:

Yellow has the advantage of A) hooking up right away and B) having a food ready to improve right way
Red has the advantage of 3 strong resources (2 6 yield tiles and 1 7 yield (though, 3 of those are commerce), plus is just a strong hammer source if I want to build great Lighthouse or collosus, both of which will be popular on this map)

As you can probably tell by the fact that I'm researching wheel and not AH, I'm going with Red. Road that PH that I'm currently chopping and the settler takes 3 turns to plant. With the chop and 5 turns building, I think I get my settler planted on about turn 33, which is probably slower than others.

I explored south some - fish/sheep/ivory seems strong, plus I can probably share both the fish and sheep with island cities at a later date, which will be nice.

Demos are ok, I think. I'm guessing the 6 is an IMP civ building a settler - obviously, someone is switching to slavery.

So, this is my nearest land. I am putting city #1 in red, to the NE. I was thinking NW (yellow) for #2, but that only has sheep, while SE (blue) has fish, ivory and sheep, so that seems like a better shot. I need to scout SW, too, because that could be good (fish/copper right now). I should pick up all that riverside stuff soon, though, because those sites will drive commerce and getting cottages up there will be key to my research.

I am roading the plains hill, which will cut a turn off of my settler movement.

I thought about agri->AH, but decided the bonus wasn't worth delaying AH.

For city #2, I'll mine the copper, then pasture the pig and then road my way back to the cap. It will get a granary and will pop out at least one settler before probably giving the lighthouse a try. We'll see - expansion has to be a priority, but the lighthouse or collosus will be nice, too. Both have the advantage of getting me a merchant for currency.

You gotta love a game where 1/2 the field is imperialistic and the first city settled is the org/ind guy.

Love it. The bonus from IMP is great, but it's not like you are doomed to settle slower without it.
